Extra drivers and amplifiers

How many of you guys stock up on extra drivers for your speakers? I got to thinking how horrible it would be to wake up one morning to a defective amplifier on my LSi 25's, call Polk, and hear that they aren't making the amps anymore. I'm thinking of purchasing a couple of amps should that happen. Same thing for drivers.

Anyone do this?

If you have a speaker for which there are no spare parts then it is time to get new speakers. Speaker technology does not sit still.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

if you want to keep the speaker or whatever device in factory OEM manufacturer original condition and specification then finding and / or stocking the original replacement parts is required.

otherwise if you do not mind using "aftermarket" or cloned replacement speaker parts
then it personal customizing that can be a lot of fun

If you have a pair of speakers that you love, why not?

I love my speakers Face. But they are going to be 20 years old next year. They don't owe me a thing. Would you go to a junk yard to hope to find parts for a 20 year old car? To me it's the same thing.

I keep some spares for the vintage speakers (the ones that I can afford to); e.g., EV T-35s. I have two spare pairs of R/S 40-1354s for my TQWTs. No spares for the Valencias (can't afford to).

I have one spare Peerless silk dome tweeter, some spaer Philips soft domes, spare EPI inverted domes; stuff like that.

Umm...There's actually a very thriving industry for vintage car parts.;) I've went to junk yards many times in search of very hard to find parts.

Depending on the part, people will pay top dollar for them. My Firebird is a 1990, so it's approaching 20 years old. I don't really have a reason to get a new car, so I'll be getting junkyard parts for a long time whenever I need something.

I also can definitely see some upsides to stocking up on extra drivers. My Monitor 7A's were made in 1978...they aren't exactly new. I absolutely love these speakers, and doubt they'll ever leave me.

I bought some spare passive radiators for them on ebay a while back, and as soon as I find a pair of the correct MW's, and a pair of Peerless tweets at a good price, I'll be snagging them up.

If it's a pair of speakers that you love, and intend to keep for a long, then by all means stock up on parts for them.
