I'm new to this forum. I was wondering if anyone could help me one this, I had my cross over out and noticed that the white damping material in these cabinets was all pushed towards the top of the cabinet. Is this right or should it be even through out the cabinet.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

    Welcome to the Forum,

This is normal and that same as in my 5b's. The material is usually only behind the active drivers like the midrange and the tweeter.

    Welcome to Club Polk.
That is how the damping material is placed in mt RTA11TL's. I had confirmed the placement with Polk CS. Now my Monitor 5A's are another story. They are pretty well packed and even behind the PR. This is how they were done originally. I suspect that yours are correct but you could ask Polk CS just to be sure.

I've got a similar question actually...

I had my 7A's open recently, and noticed the same thing. All of the filling was up at the top. There's barely any behind the MW...it's mostly behind the tweeters. Should the stuffing be pulled down to fill the area behind the MW's?

My Monitor 7As (1979) have the stuffing filling down to almost the bottom of the MWs. The stuffing in my Monitor 10Bs (1988) fills the entire box. The SDA 1Bs are stuffed just to the top of the PR. It must be a final tuning adjustment.

Interesting...I'll have to try pulling the stuffing down and see if they sound better.

I'm guessing I'd probably be getting better bass output if the stuffing was down further.

I'm just wondering how the stuffing would manage to work it's way upward...I could see the stuffing falling down...but up?

At the auction where I found the speakers, they were sitting upside down. I wonder if the previous owner had been listening to them like that...

If so, that's probably why they sold them...lol

This link has my findings for the RTA11TL (see post #20).
    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73017&highlight=RTA11TL+upgrade

I am sure that it is different for other speakers and may even change for a particular model over the years due to tweaking and if the assembler was having a good or bad day. It is also possible that the Dacron batting shifted over time or that someone was monkeying around with the placement.
