Bass only

i recently had a pioneer deck, sony amp and 4 polk mm series installed in my 98 f150. The front speakers sound fine but the rears produce bass only, if i switch the rca's on the amp the problem is reversed. Changing the settings on the deck i get either no sound in the rears or bass only. The installers only guess was a problem with the deck itself. Any suggestions?

Yeah I guess I'll have to. The guy I bought the deck from thinks the problem is something else and says his supplier will be pissed if theres nothing wrong with the original deck.

Does the pioneer deck have the FIE (front image enhancer) feature? If it does make sure it is OFF. The FIE takes the higher frequencies out of the rear speakers to "enhance" the front image.

On my PIO, you can switch the rears to full range or sub. It only has 2 sets of pre-outs. You can switch it so either the rear pre-outs will either be hi-pass, or low pass and the rear speaker output will only pass the opposite. Look in your owners manual or download one if you don't have it.

I've tried every possible combination of settings on the deck and amp, no matter what, if I turn rear sub off I get no sound in rear, with rear sub on I get sound in rear but bass only. Will try switching out deck sometime this week.

If the rear speakers stop playing when you turn the sub off on the head unit then youre running the rears off the head unit's subwoofer output. Take the deck out and make sure youre running off the proper preouts.

Does your deck even have 3 sets of outputs?

Sub set split to run sub and rears?

I rechecked everything last night starting at the beginning, reset deck to factory and found that rears produce bass only on any setting, switched rca's and the rears STILL bass only. Switched spkr. wires on amp and discovered that rear channel on amp is pooched, rears sound fine on front channel. Anyone know how to fix a sony xm 444 amp? I got it used for 50 bucks.

if you could get a schematic diagram of the device
that would provide factory information to aid in problem analysis.

labor rates maypossibly be cost prohibited and you may be better at finding another
used amplifier just make sure it is in good operational condition.

Weird. Seems like the low pass filter is stuck on.

Why not just run down to Walmart and buy another cheap-o amp. Probably cost as much as it would to fix that one anyway.

Thats what I was thinking, low pass filter stuck on, think I'll yank it out this weekend and crack it open, definitly not worth taking to a shop at thier rates.

Especially when it can be replaced so cheaply.
