Long gone, it's all about quantity, not quality. Too many companies jumped on the cartoon movie band wagon and now they come out weekly, almost...and 90% of the ones I've seen, including many from Pixar, suck.

I disagree completely. The Pixar movies have been some of the best things Disney has put out. I'm not a fan of Disney in general because of their business practices - the whole putting films in the "vault" to keep them valuable, you're talking about CHILDREN'S MOVIES - but I'd say of their mainstream films there has been a pretty steady incline in quality, both from a content and visual standpoint. "Quantity" is just a side effect of technology - it's much easier to make these films now, and a lot more kids to show them to.

Let me guess, you're.... 45? 50? More of this "good old days" vs modern stuff. Everyone thinks things were better when they were kids, it's just sentimental nonsense.

I don't claim they don't put out crap, they do, but they put out plenty of GOOD things too. You're not their target audience anymore, and the world changes. They have to put out movies that the most people will enjoy.

If they had this technology in the 40's and 50's you think they'd still only put out one movie every 3 years because they had some moral commitment to their art?? Please.

I think the Pixar stuff is pretty good. I'm generally a fan of most of the Walt Disney Pictures/Walt Disney Productions animated films. Some of their "live action" films directed at adults and families are quite good as well. The stuff for the tweens and teens should be avoided at all costs.

and many other enterprises ( ESPN being part )

I'm with Bob. Disney was absolute dreck for a fairly long period before their resurgence with The Little Mermaid.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Disclaimer: I'm a Big Disney fan.

My 2 cents: Not everything they do is gold. How many companies have a perfect record? But they are a top-notch company, from top to bottom. And while jvc may have highlighted Disney's assets beyond the movie business, its important to note that they ARE a business, and to survive they must DIVERSIFY.

That said, where movies are concerned, yes, Disny has had a few stinkers (Chicken Little, for example), but Buy and Large*, they have put out quality flicks* for a long time. Some argue that the work Pixar has done for Disney is some of the best theatrical releases against ANY genre its compared against.

*Couldn't help with the Disney innuendos.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

You have got to be kidding me... Chicken Little was a stinker? That was one of my favorites.

Disney seems to be pretty steady in my opinion. I don't know but I am kinda glad there has been some competition in the animated series. Hoodwinked and Shrek's all came about as a variant to Disney, if I'm not mistaken.

I think we are just becoming a tougher to please audience. :) Not as easily entertained. If you sit back and watch some classics like Bambi and the Fox and the Hound, they are fairly poorly made...but we love them. Why? Because we grew up with them and there was nothing to compare them too... not the case anymore.

I say, they are still just as original and good, but we demand such a higher stake to be entertained. Just my humble but deadly accurate opinion :D:D:D
