I have a HC1500 projector that has been working great. We had a storm a few days ago and our DVR stopped working right. We got a new DVR box and when I came home to turn on the projector with the new DVR I would get a picture for about 3 secs then it would go to a b lack screen. If I press the menu button it would show 720P 60 or if I switch it to 1080i it would then show that but no picture.

If I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in the same thing happens, 3 secs then black screen. So it is getting a signal but not showing anything.
Also something strange, when I hook up to my pc using a DVI to HDMI adapter and boot my pc I get nothing.

BUT the projector works fine with an older DVD player I have using the DVI to HDMI adapter. so in summary

it works with the old dvd player with HDMI to DVI
it doesn't work with DVR box using HDMI
I get no signal from any pc I have hooked up to it.
I tried using 2 different HDMI cables on all devices, i get the same results on both

Does anyone know what is going on??

This pj isnt 1.3 compatible ,try checking the source as it might be putting it through 1.3

That makes sense I guess except that my Pc also doesn't work with it anymore. I guess the newer DVR box could be putting out 1.3a HDMI signal and the older one was not and thats why there was no problems. I called Mitsubishi but they said since it works through my dvd player it has to be a source problem.
I will try to hook it up to some different devices this weekend and post my findings. thanks

Somtimes hdmi cables and their sockets break with tension , does the pc work on vga?

Try giving the cables and sockets some slack or a gentle wriggle ,That works for my tv

Sorry to hear the issues you are having but this is why I have not moved to HDMI. Stuff just does not seem to work all the time.

Give me DVI or Component video with digital cable for audio.

Actually, it doesn't make any sense. HDMI versions are fully backward compatible. Not saying that there aren't incompatibilities with some devices, just that it has nothing to do with the HDMI version.

If the PC used to work, and no longer does, I would suspect a problem with the display device. Are these different inputs for the different devices? Try the PC or DVR on the input you are using for the DVD player.

Perhaps PJ was also affected by the storm, sounds like a possible mainboard. I would try sending it in for service.

Yes both are from Monoprice, the one installed in the wall is 50ft 24AWG and the other one I tried is 20FT 24AWG. I'll post my findings tonight, still at work atm..:(

ok so maybe i figured something out but ..

So I got into the DVR menu and changed the HD output to HDMi and still it comes up for only 5 or 6 secs but i saw a screen that said something like

" HDCP failed. your device is not compatible"

so I call the cable company and tell them perhaps this new DVR has a different firmware, so they are going to send someone out BUT

I plug my pc up and I get no signal still, so I cant be sure if its the cable box or the something else with the projector. ill try my friend's PS3 tomorrow...

Well, I guess I will have to send the projector back to Mitsubishi. When I plugged in an Xbox360 it came up as VGA but I tried plugging in a PS3 and multiple pcs but it wont pick up the signal. Still wont work with my DVR too. I think something is messed up with the HDCP processing.

I would blame the DVR. Cable company boxes are horrible with sync issue over HDMI. PS3's have there own connection issues. I had a big problem with their setup. If a DVD player works fine then it is setup issues with a piece of gear or sync issues.

Sorry to bring back an old thread like this but my dad just finally got the projector looked at at a local electronics store. They said it was something on the main board of the projector. They would have to send it back directly to Mitsubishi for it to be repaired. Isn't that a very expensive repair job to repair the motherboard?

When it initially broke , we had a lightning storm and 2 of our DVR boxes broke and Charter had to come out and replace them. But when we had the projector checked it did not show signs of lightning damage ( burn or melted components) . I am hoping our insurance will cover it since we can show there was a storm that day and our dvr's broke as well.

Since I only paid $575 for the projector, should I just call my insurance company and have them replace it at the full retail cost. Even after my $500 deductible I should still get ~$500 since it retailed at $1000 when it came out I think. Is this my best bet?

Your best bet would be to move on, take the money from insurance if possible. Depend on manufacturer these repair cost could exceed the value of the PJ right now. If it were me, just saying now, I would cash out on it, add a few hundred bucks and splurge for a 1080p projector. You don't have to go spending major bucks, but you can get into a 1080p unit now for under 1k. And if your really wanting to go all out, Panasonic and Epson are both around 1500. A little food for thought my friend.

Optoma HD20 under 1K in case your wondering.

Yea, I was thinking about saving up for the HC3800. Looks really nice. Also, its not related but where are you at in Japan? I might be moving there to live for a few years near Nagoya. Are there any good shops to get home theater equipment? Most of the shops I saw around Tokyo and Nagoya last time I went were much higher than online prices in the US.

Cool, I have only recently seen my 1st Mits PJ while I was in the states. It was the 6800 though. It was pretty good though but I can you can go more for your money with a Panny 3000 or Epson 6100/8100 than with the 3800. Regardless, enjoy whatever you buy. They're all good and besides you get to enjoy the "BIGGER" picture.

O_o How would you go about moving to Nagoya, that will be costly, and what about employment (entertaining the notion of moving overseas a little as well).

Well, given the conversion rates, it costs more to buy something over there. But it has been like that for a reason....the last time I was in Japan I picked up a 20W@4Ohm class D amp for $70 (it was noisy, but it worked, until recently sadly).
Interesting piece from the same manufacture
    Full Digital Amp

Stuff always tends to cost more in Japan, I don't know why. As far as projector goes, the HD20 looks nice....

Gear is expensive here, not like it used to be like in the 90s. I buy everything online from the US. Nagoya is a very nice area. Come on out, I'm sure we can link up.

You DO NOT want to make that insurance claim. They'll pay it, but you've also got a good chance of them dropping you at some point in the future or your rates being higher when you get a new home, etc.

Do some googling, but here's the first link I could find:
