Wheel Locks / Club / Anti-theft Devices?

I just found out that my neighbor got his Xenon lights stolen off his Infiniti G35, then a few houses down someone's Lexus LS430 was broken into (stole the Xenon lights too, may be the same people)...

Then the thieves came back and stole tires/wheels and left the cars on bricks.

This all happened within the past few days. So I was researching locks and stuff and was wondering, what anti-theft devices are highly recommended? And which are the most effective?

I've been looking at locks like The Club:

Do they actually work well or just a deterrent?

Thanks, they've been hitting a lot of cars recently and leaving them on bricks.

For some reason they aren't going after the high-end cars (Corvettes, BMW 7-series, etc.) but lots of Japanese cars are getting broken into.

Gorilla Automotive or Gorilla tire locks

    try these urls....

How about the McGard Wheel Locks?

    www.mcgard.com

I was thinking 5 different wheel locks (Gorilla, McGard, etc.) so the thieves would need 5 different sets of keys... ;)

The less attractive the target, the better the chances are you won't become a victim. That's my .02.

Kinda like nothing will really stop a thief if they really want to steal your car, but I'm looking for the best deterrents if possible. :)

Also I don't understand this - there were Jaguars, BMW's (M series and 7 series) parked in the same area and nobody touches those... but the Hondas/Toyota's/Infiniti's are more at risk? WTF?

More popular on the black market. Camry's are a big target here. Same goes for light pickups. I was sick when my Nissan got jacked. If I ever find out who did it, I'll cut his hands off and feed him his nuts.

That's why I'm concerned. I'd think the expensive cars are more likely to get stolen, but I guess Nissans/Toyotas/Hondas are more popular amongst thieves.

Japanese brand car are usually bigger targets for parts because they could be interchangeable. I remember back in 02 when I got my TL and were constantly concerned about stolen HID headlights.

The best anti-theft is just have it insured or secure your vehicle in a garage. Devices don't stop thieves, they just hinder a casual amateur thieves. Sounds like you are dealing with a group of pros.

Sure, devices don't stop thieves, but they do slow them down :)

I'm thinking something like the following:
    1. Club / Steering wheel lock
    2. Wheel locks with different patterns
    3. Fuel pump cutoff switch

They are all inexpensive and easy to install.

Now I understand. HID headlights came out recently though, I don't believe it's on older cars...

Heres what you do leave the windows down and unlocked then get a trained 200 lb Rottweiler and make that his doghouse at night. Or a house with a garage.

HID isn't really new anymore. Thieves used to steal HID because the aftermarket ones were expensive and there wasn't a lot of retrofit kits. A LS430 definitely has HID

Another thing these thieves have been stealing are navigation units and car stereos. Looks like those are popular too...

Then go with the dog, Or a good alarm and Lowjack be sure and smear the alarm and lowjack stickers all over, also might consider getting a motion detection controlled video camera and digital recorder for your home and driveway.

Also never leave anything of value out in the open, the crackheads will smash and grab, I saw allot of that when I lived in Dallas

Where is "here"? HID's are expensive, usually sold to body shops.

The best anti-theft device is to drive a rusted 1991 4-door Honda Civic. You can park anywhere and your car is guaranteed to be there when you get back.

We had a 1989 Nissan a few years ago and people still stole from it...

Just articles left inside, good thing not the entire car.

Take the club back before you ever use it. It is one of the most worthless anti-theft devices in the market. It can be defeated in about 30 seconds or less. A total waste of money.

Yes. A hack saw will defeat a club (they saw the steering wheel -not the club) in a few seconds. It is a total waste IMO. A kill switch or system defeat that is well hidden will work much better.

stealing headlights is pretty common these days as most of the newer cars come with HIDs already, that's what these guys are after. As mentioned Gorilla locks for wheels and you should be fine.

Get a hood lock. Check aftermarket shops for locking screws for HID lights.
Locking wheel locks are worthless. They can be removed with locking plyers or the bolts can be broken with a few taps with a heavy hammer or sledgehammer.
If you're installing an aftermarket alarm, tell the installer to install the siren inside the vehicle out of sight. Better yet get a air horn installed inside the vehicle.

I keep my vehicle safe in the bronx with a hood lock, paging alarm with a air horn.
