Best HT match for Monitor 70s and CS10?

I'm building my first real HT system and just purchased a pair of Monitor 70s, CS10 center and Yamaha 765 receiver. Any suggestions for the rears and sub? I plan to use the system for 60% HT/gaming and 40% music, but don't anticipate more than a 5.1 set-up at this point.

For the rears, I'm considering the Monitor 30s or 40s, but have heard great things about the RM8s.

For the sub, room size is 16x20 and am open to suggestions (approx $500 budget).

Thanks for the advice.

I have a Yamaha 665 M60's in front, CS2 center, M40's in back and a PSW505 and everything sounds great. Your AVR is better and the M70's are better so with that combo yours should sound very good!

M70s and the CS2 or CS20 are the way to go.. I run that myself with a Denon AVR 2807 (would be a model or two up for above the 765 for a comparable Yamaha)....rears are M30s. But 40s maybe even better.

I also second the PSW505 which is still around at half-price for a budget system. The new Yamaha should have plenty of power for that set up.

    Enjoy...

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I'm a little worried about the size of the monitor 30s/40s in the rear because I don't have a lot of space, but I think I can find stands that will fit. The PSW505 sounds like the consensus sub and it can be had for a great price right now.

If space is a problem in the back consider the POLK OWMs (see their catalog above) ..they're small but good and they can be wall mounted and are a good match with the M-series as well.

+1 on cnh's recommendation for a CS2/CS20, the CS1/CS10 will get overpowered by your 70's IMHO. I see you have already purchased it, but I would see what you could do about returning/refunding it and stepping up to the CS2/CS20. If it's not possible, give the CS1 a shot and see how it does. Remember the center is one of, if not the most important speaker in a HT system with somewhere around 75% (not sure of the exact number) of the sound of any given movie comes out of the center. I have Monitor 70's and the CS2 works wonderfuly with them. I would also recommend the Monitor 40's for your surrounds, they are a bit beefy but can be put on stands fairly easily. I also have them and they work very well in my humble set-up as well. Good luck and welcome to Club Polk.

Well, I took the advice of the experts and bought the PSW505 sub and its fantastic.

I also returned the CS10 for the C20 and the sound is significantly better.

    Thanks for the help.

Good choice on the CS20, it will def. be a better match for the 70's.
