Mac Pro tools hook up questions?

I guess my main question is: Would it be OK to hook up the out put from a mac pro tools box to one of the inputs of my receiver? My roommate wants to listen to it on some good speakers for some editing of some tracks for her band. I know it has balanced and unbalanced outputs, but I'm not sure which "box" it is. I'm assuming I would need to use the unbalanced with RCAs, right? I know very little about this, and don't want to screw up my equipment, but if it's perfectly safe then I'm glad to help. I also think it would be fun. Do you guys have any advice on this one? I'm trying to find out exactly which pro tools set up her bandmate has, but right now I don't know. Please let me know if you have any tips/advice/warnings about this one Thanks again!

Yes, it's ok to hook up to a stereo. Just don't go plugging the balanced outs into a unbalanced RCA in without knowing what your doing though. Just because you can get an adapter from one type of plug to another doesn't mean it's the right way to do it necessarily. I've always suspected that many people would plug a pair of headphones into an AC outlet if they had an adapter handy to do it with!! :eek:

Probably the easiest way is to do it SPDIF. Most all of the ProTools have that as an output option and if you have a SPDIF into your receiver, then one short cable and your good to go!

I guess I haven't woke up yet, but what do you mean by SPDIF?

I would do it by the RCA output jacks if it has them....SPDIF is a digital connection I think, like coax (1 RCA wire)
