This may infuriate certain cp members ,but here goes anyway
I want to know if its worth spending half the price I paid on my receiver for a set of speaker cables . The reason I am asking is that I have in my possession a snazy looking pair of rti8's
These are gona be awesome for two channel ,already I can tell the difference with my 607 ,its now warmer . Before I was listening to music with rti6's and finding it harsh on higher frequencies . With great satisfactorily results all round the spectrum would it be beneficiary to invest in cables

This may infuriate slowpolky ,but here goes anyways. I shouldndt even be giving advice because I really dont like you but everyone even people I dont like deserve to have good advice.
First off buy yourself a real amp the Onyko 607 isnt going to cut it. If the 607 has preouts use it as a preamp if not buy a used 5/7 channel amp, the Onyko should be fine for the rear surround speakers and a preamp if the Onkyo doesnt have the preouts and a decent sub, if you havent allready spent the money on HT furniture. Then get some decent speaker cables and IC's. For the 4k you were going to spend on furniture you can have a decent home theater, then as time/money permits get furniture. If you want to wow people with your HT setup it isnt going to be done with furniture they will be so underwhelmed with the sound they wont care about the seats.
Speding 4k on seating for a home theater thats based around a $600 receiver is kind of like spending 4k on rims and tires for a 79 pinto wagon or putting a 4 cyl motor in a vette why bother?
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
I have to say that SNOW echoes my own experience having gone through an Onkyo 605, 805 and an Adcom GFA-555 on a lowly set of M70s (as just one example).....at each step up a noticeable difference could be heard in two channel. The 805 imaged better, had more authority and put out more sound than the 605, of course it weighs twice as much and most of that weight is the supersized EL tranformer. As good as the 805 was the Adcom took it up yet another notch. 200 watts/channel of non-stop power....fairly clean power. And the journey did not end here...
SDA-2A or Bs are now in the house. Incredible BASS output from a large but not overwhelming cabinet. The SL2000s are OK but I can tell they're not airing all the 'detail' that are in a recording. So RDO-194s are in the offing.
Speakers, cables, amps...synergy! Take a look at Ricardo's Audio-Odyssey if you want to see a 'life lived music'!
Hang onto your hat Slowpolky, the earth under your feet is NO LONGER solid and the SOUND might suck you 'in'?

I know the onkyo may not cut it for everyone ,but my taste is ht primarily .The tag on this is more cable nonsense , I dont understand ?
Anyhoo I am still wondering about the op .
Would it be worth paying 200 for 2 speaker cables
Will I notice a difference playing at low volumes -

In my oppinion I doubt you will hear much difference. I understand HT is you primary goal but with HT also you need some power for your mains and center channel. Take your $200.00 that you have for cables add another $150.00 or so and get an Adcom gfa-555 or something similar for your mains and your 2 channel and HT will come alive and then you will notice a difference at lower volumes. Im not trying to run down your 607 we all started somewhere. I started out with a cheap sony then went to a $1500.00 Sony ES model but it still didnt sound near as good as when I bought a $300.00 amp.

+1 As I mainly agree with powering your fronts off a seperate amp. Even if its rated at or somewhat lower than your Onkyo, the sound quality in itself can be night and day. Btw when do we get to see pics?Truck setup

Personally, I'd invest the money elsewhere right now. The Monoprice cables are fine for now, given the rest of your gear.
I'd say that upgrading some other aspects of your rig would make more sense right now. The Onkyo 60x receivers are great for what they are(I run a 606), but they definitely have their limitations. The main one being the lack of pre-outs.
It's not what you want to hear, but I'd say your biggest improvement right now would come in the way of a better AVR. Pricier cables probably won't make much of a difference on your AVR.
I'm demoing a pair of AQ Type 4's right now. I'm loving them for my 2 channel rig, but when I tried them on my 606...I didn't really hear much of a difference compared to my 14 awg zip cord. This is most likely due to the Onkyo.
A new AVR is my next mod for the HT system though. The 606 will make a fine AVR for a future bedroom/secondary HT system though. I've got my eyes on the Pio Elite SC-07 now though...
If you do want to get some better quality cabling though, I'd suggest Canare 4S11. It's better than what you've got now, but it won't break the bank as much as some of the higher end brands.
