    I own:

DCM Sub One - Bandpass 10", 195w amp. Great HT sub, suprisingly musical for a bandpass design, was $299 when in production. Usuall bells and whistles, phase, gain, xover. Detachable power cord.

DCM 712 - Front firing 8", bottom firing 12" passive radiator, B&K 70w amp. Very musical sub, usable response to 25Hz, was $650 when in production. Designed to compliment the original Timeframe and Timewindow series. Fixed high and low pass at 75Hz, 2nd order (12db/oct). Detachable power cord.

Polk Monitor 6 S2 - Passive, dual 6.5's, bandpass. Great for a small room, suprising amount of *punch* for its size. Originally came with the Monitor 6 speakers as a 3-pc set, not sure on retail.

Solid Solutions PB100 - 10" front firing, bottom ported (made by B&W, same as the ASW500). From the early to mid 90's 'Solid' series, designed to use with the 'Rock Solid' Monitors. Another great music sub, esp for a ported design. Fixed active 2nd order (12db/oct) low pass / passive 1st order (6db/oct) high pass @ 80Hz. 90w amp. Solid and tight down to 28Hz.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Good post BTW Ganzo, this could be interesting to see what people have and like.

Dayton Titanic 10" sealed front firing 250 w - I like it a lot - pretty good for HT great for music.

Two PSW 202s paired with my RT25is. Running one per side - the jury is still out on this experiment but they sound ok - still fine-tuning.

Shack, was that the $349 kit on the Titanic? I've been eyeballing that one for a LONG time. Worth the coin in your opinion?

Yes it is. I think it would be hard to find a better bargain for $350. Some say the Adire Rava at $400 is as good or better but this one was fun putting it together. My only complaint is the black krinkle finish on the box that seems to be the popular covering these days. I know they are doing it because it cuts down on production time and costs but I would prefer a nicer finish but other than that I am totally pleased.

Boston PV600 downfiring 10". I'm not big on subs so I don't know where it fits, probably entry level. I'm totally satisfied with it. Can you guys let me know where it stands? Entry or moderate range.

Russ one more thing - The sum of the parts bought individually from Parts Express is probably more than $350, The amp is $120 and the woofer is $140 plus the box, spikes, grill cover , etc. Remember too that you can get the amp with or without the 30Hz boost.

REL Storm III, very musical sub, 150 watts...I am very happy with it, on 2 ch, it complements the LSi15 on the low VERY nicely. Their design philosophy works, that is to feed it with high level speaker output, in addition to LFE...
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

All yours subs are inferior to mine. Behold, the Sony SA-WM40. Finally, I may get some respect.

No really, its not bad. I got it mostly for rap. And it works great for rap. It makes a lot of noise and shakes my apartment (sorry neighbors) plenty for HT. It really sucks for jazz and classical though. One could say its not the cleanest sub ever, but I like it and I think it was a good deal for the money.

Had a DIY Adire Audio 15" Tempest driver plus (2) 15" passives in a 214L box with a Parts Express 250W plate amp.(The amp was a mistake)

    From Adire Audio:

"The Adire alignment design for Tempest is an overdamped Passive Radiator alignment. This alignment matches a second order roll-off with a Q of 0.577 and an
Fc of 20 Hz to within 0.5 dB down to 11 Hz. This overdamped alignment provides a very tight and accurate sound (with the group delay near 17 ms at 20 Hz),
while providing the potential for high SPL output. Overall, it provides the same effortless sonics of the EBS alignment, while yielding higher potential SPL
output in the midbass range. As a result, this alignment is well suited for both home theater and music-only applications.
The Adire alignment design is a net 214L cabinet, tuned to 15.4 Hz."

This mother was BIG and BAD, but I really feel it needed a stronger amp, three 15" cones was too much for the PE amp. It is gone now, and I am too busy to build one to replace it. But I will, most likely a pair of big ****'s.

big norm i would consider your svs a mid level to mid high.

i guess everone knows about the Stryke Force. dula av15 740l tuned ti 17 hz. i would have to say it is highend. i would compare it to dual velo hgs 18.

Actually Stryke Force will outperform (SPL-wise) dual HGS-18's with ease.

The beauty of the Velo HGS is the extraordinarily low THD that is part and parcel to the high gain servo design.

Unfortunately, the same design is overly conservative and drastically limits SPL from what you would expect from an 18" woofer with a 1,350 watt amp.

Yes, the HGS-18 certainly pounds, but amazingly, it cannot even exceed the output of a single SVS Ultra at any frequency.

    http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_8_4/subwoofers-12-2001.html

(for those of you who will actually break out the calculator and verify my above statement - subtract 6 dB from the SVS Ultra graph to get the numbers for a single sub and then add 2 dB back in because that test was with the original Ultra driver and the current Ultra TV-12 driver has about 2 dB more oomph than the original)

For sound quality, though, the entire Velo HGS series is unbeatable. Velodyne makes one fabulous subwoofer and overall the HGS-18 II is STILL the reference standard to which all other high end subs are compared.

I've got a Yamaha YST-160. Picked it up on clearance at BB when they changed models.

I've also got a Dayton Titanic 10". Someday I'll actually get around to doing something with it. I've got a tube and an extra amp.

I have built a HouseWrecker from decware. It houses two 15" Adire Tempest drivers mounted in a true isoberrek alignment and tuned to 13Hz. I am powering this beast with a Bash Audio amp model SAM500 (Rated power 550W @ 4ohm and 375W @ 8 ohm). My total cost on biulding this sub was about $750...but worth every penny.

I have tried and listed to many subs in my days, and this has got to be one of the best musical subs I have ever heard. It is a solid performer for movies as well.

Some day I would like to compare it to an SVS sub out of curiosity!

I have a Polk PSW350. Probably a higher end entry level sub. I definitely want to upgrade in the next year. I would definitely be missing lower end bass if I did not own this sub because I am running bookshelf speakers for mains; so it is okay for now. However, it bugs me that I'm missing out on the sub 35 Hz bass that is found in a lot of dvd movies.

Good thread and will be helpful for me in a future purchase.

Sound quality - tough call, only to be made side-by-side.

SPL - HouseWrecker wins hands down against any single driver SVS, obviously. The Tempest is one very potent woofer and you've got two! That thing has got to pound. I love that name BTW.

Twin SVS PC+/CS+/Ultra or the upcoming PB2-Plus would give it a run SPL wise. A B4 Plus would demolish it. But they cost a lot more than $750. DIY is the best bang for the buck, no doubt.

Nice work - sounds like a cool subwoofer - any chance for some pics?

Man, you have no idea. I had twin stacked 350s and in my room they dug to 32-33 strong. I liked the sound quality and I thought I was getting nearly all the bass from DVDs - I was SO wrong.

If you are a HT buff, you owe it to yourself to demo a sub that has true clean extension to 20 Hz - the difference is amazing.
