my story with polk is pretty short, i bought a pair of RTi6s because i need a home theatre system in september; these were on sale ($170 CAD) and ppl say there r good for the money. i really didnt expect too much since i currently owning an Klipsch iFi 2.1 (RSX-3 satelite) which i bought for $450 for my computer and i liked them a lot. When the RTI6 arrives im surpurised by their size, then I decided to hook up to the iFi sub, switches the RSX-3 off (which i believe is not the best way of doing it).

i am really shocked

the piano playback quality, i would never expect any speaker would do that. it sounds like argerich is playing a steinway is in front of me live. forgot to mention, im a chopin fan, spend %50 time on classical piano and %50 on other music, mainly vocal focused pop. i think this is due to the large woood cabinent, the resonance they create.
but the feeling, i havent enjoy the music with eyes closed in front of my sofa for a long time.

the vocal is nice, but sound seperation and details r not too suprising, i think maybe its the stupid sub amp + burn in problem. but im already a polkie fan over klipsch now, i like the naturaler sound of polk.

after a lot research on this forum and AVS, i soonly bought other components to complete my budget build and im very fortunate that they were on sale,
CSIa4 as center ($180 CAD)
M10 as rear ($89 CAD)
Denon AVR 789 receiver. ($499 CAD)
im moving to the new apartment in september so i decide to leave the suprise until then. For now ill hook the RTI6s with the iFi sub, and use my Emu-0404 usb and sound source (they sound very nice though).

as the moving date coming, i realize they were some problem though, i really want to hear your opinions.

1. mounting problem, i cannot use speaker stands/ night stands for my RTi6 for many reason, so i need to mount them. The BT77 speaker mount is very pricey (90 CAD after tax), and im not sure if they work on RTI6 since the max depth BT77 can hold is 13''.
There is a really cheap and speaker walll mount on mono price, but i do not see it can connect to the RTi6s, since there is only 1 keyhole on the back.

And, as many suggest, the best placement for front should let the distance between front speaker - seating position match the distance of center speaker - seating position.
"Avoid having the front center speaker closer to your main viewing position than the left and right speakers; this will unbalance the inter-mix between the different sound channels. " as pro suggest

---my center speaker will most likely sitting in the TV stand underneath my TV flipping upside down tilting upwards. so my front has to be like at least 1~2 feet away from the wall, toe inwards to achieve the best sound. Then I think Audyssuey MultiEQ room setup maybe can do something about this? but im really not sure, if yes then Wall Mount may work just like speaker stand.

The bottomline my gf suggest is hang them on a pin, we tried to hang them in the washroom cliips where we hang our cloth to, and i agree it look awesome. but then no toe-in no good :mad:
OR i can put two small bookshelves on each side of my front wall to place the speakers.
so usee im really confused. How these 4 options will sound different (wall mount, wall hanging on pins, bookshelves on wall,speakerstand)

What seem to be a good option for me?

the second thing is i realized theres no pre-out on my receiver, even i can return them right get the full money back theres nothing i can do with $500 CAD. I do want to upgrade my front to RTia 7, or even 9 or LSi series. But from what i know LSi wont work well at all on my Denon-789, but seem RTia 7 will funtion at its basics on Denon-789. I mean, replacing a recevier with pre-out and buying a seperate amp is another $2000~$3000 for me which is way too much. so i think my next step is getting RTia7 run on my Denon-789, next summer when they on sale. Hows that sound?

Oh the last thing, M10 will be mounted easily right? Ill probably just gonna pin a screw on wall and hang them there

Odd to hear your AVR-789 does not have preouts (except sub)! My AVR-787 has them! Many companies are eliminating small features like this, much to our dismay!

from what ive read, the cheapest denon receiver with preout is 2809/2810
AVR789 has 2 preout for zone 2, and new AVR 590 has 2 preout for surround L, and SR (to complete 7.1), but i think both of them wont work on FL FR.

If you want, you could audition some Yamaha receivers. If you for example put your hands on some of past year model, you should be able to match your 500$ CDN budget. The HTR-6080 or HTR-6160 should both be in your price range and can both accomodate pre-out all around. Nice to see a few more CDN here at CP, such a fine Forum!

since im wont getting anything new for at least another year, i think ill stick with audyssey and the new features for now
and the next step ill probably wait for A5/7/9 on sale (A7 was $900 CDN a pair at futureshop last week), grab a pair and wait for receivers then amp. wut a evil plan

And you're absolutely right...you have to hit the 2800 series to get pre-outs or the comparable AVR 989. And that's a bit of coin! Too bad because Denon used to have pre-outs on the 2307/887 series then discontinued that the next year!

The 789 is a good AVR and will give you decent power with the Rti-A series unless you're trying to power A9s which really could use a bit more.

That's always the way to go with FS, they MUST be on sale NEVER EVER buy full price at FS, the price is usally inflated (IE: Often FS will put regular price of Polk speakers more expensive than the actual Polk MSRP and this wrong, very wrong... You never even pay close to the MSRP!!!).

i think my next plan is to get a pair of RTia5 since they have better mid and easier to drive than A7 from my receiver and im getting a sub. Will there be a big improvement by getting A7 replacing my RTI6?

But im getting a sub first. considering Polk PSW111. i audited them they sound so good to me, articulated, in music. the living room will be mid sized, i dont like boomy bass but i like it goes deep. they r $250 CDN right now @ futureshop. But my gf though they r too small, she likes big ones. we live together and we do have space to place bigger subs.

Welcome to club Polk. sounds like you are on your way to a nice system.

get the biggest sub you can afford.. you can always turn it down if it's to loud... but you can never make a small sub do more than it was designed to do.. but on the same token.. Polk's new line of sub's are small and sound great.. plenty of loudness and punch.

on page 3. there is a statement on initial placement along with a diagram.
I just pasted the text but check out your manual as a starter.

Create an equilateral triangle between the speakers and the listening position.
RTi Series Loudspeakers are magnetically shielded for safe placement near TV or video monitors.

thanks jvc, the problem is for my situation this is hard to achieve (center too forward, front on the wall, no toe-in etc) , how bad this will be?
