Need a little help, all the reading I have been doing on here I feel the need for a 2 channel system and was wondering what kind of money the 1c's should bring? I have found a few pairs that are in pretty good shape and I'm not sure what kind of money they should bring. Any help would be great.

Best regrards and thanks in advance

Do you mean to say, what should they run or cost? Because 'bring' would indicate that 'you' are the seller.

In any case....probably 4-500 dollars a pair if in good-mint condition!

~$400 - $650 would be my guess...but others can chime in and give more opinions.

All depends on the condition. Alos, buying some from a local polkie will always get you a better deal.

Yes I did mean cost. And I was hoping that would be the case because the ones that I have found were in that price range, so now I have some more thinking to do. Thanks for the replies.

    Best regards

I picked mine up for 325, but also put that much into restoring them. I would say get the best you can get, and anything that is in perfect shap should bring about 600.00. typically they run between 400/600 for nice ones

No I have never owned a set, I have read so much praise on them that it makes me want to try them out. I wish someone was a little closer to me so I could get a listen before buying them. Can anyone say road trip! Again thanks for all the replies.

I paid $300 on EBay and $40 in gas for local pick up for my SDA 1C Studios back in October. They were in great shape BUT do have the original tweets and did not come with an interconnect cord. I have not rdo'd the tweets yet but I did purchase a sub cord to act as the interconnect for around $15.

I also saw a pair in very good condition go for $385 on ebay last week.

Okay,, here we go,, a good pair of 1C's,, say 400.00,,now to really bring the babies up to what you want(trust me on this) sonicaps and Mills --220.00,, aftermarket binding posts 50.00,, RDO's--200.00,, dynamat& mortite--45.00,, now that will get you sonically to a very special place. You DO NOT have to perform all/any of these mods, however,if they are worth going after, you might as well go all the way. I would suggest upgrading the tweeters first,,then as time and money permit,it's time for the
crossover/dynamat/mortite/binding post replacements,,since they are all in the neighborhood. With a good front end,,say a Jolida CD player,, a decent tube pre,and an amplifier of you choice(I prefer tubed) you will have a 2 channel system that you will be able to enjoy for years to come,at a fraction of the cost versus buying new.You will amaze your friends and relatives,as they will undoubtedly be looking for the hidden speakers to see where all the "sound" is coming from,,set up correctly,,these speakers will truely disappear. YMMV.Good luck and have fun.

There is a set of SDA 2.3 TL's in Iowa I would jump all over for the price...

And having both interconnects will let you run monoblocks if you choose...

Just be wary of the border guards. I hear they're a pain to deal with regarding contra band speakers.

Actually Geoff himself is bringing them across and I'm meeting him on the other side. Now you have me worried. Should we be. Please elaborate.

In your opinion, is it worth the upgrade if you have to pay someone to re-do the crossovers? I could do most of your suggestions myself, but soldering and such is not something I'm adept at. I have 1c's and 2b's, and as good as they sound now, I'm sure the crossover upgrade would bring the most improvement.

You could do it yourself actually,,but if you are hesitant,, buy the caps/resistors,,pull the crossovers and I will do it at no charge,as I'm sure others would make the same offer,,as you really have to experience them witih the crossovers upgraded,IMHO,,can you tell a difference,,I can,,is it worth it? To me,,YES,, and they never cease to amaze me.Good luck.

The 1C is a fantastic speaker,if you plan to keep them, then upgrade, you won't regret it, just my .02.

    Carver CT-Seven pre-amp
    Carver TFM-25 amp
    Pro-ject 6.9 turntable

From what I read the Carver will play well with the 1C's which require common ground. Will the Carver work George?

Yep,, a friend of mine who rebuilt his 1C crossovers at my home last weekend, just got his TFM 42 back from Rita;s repair,,and it sounds spectacular on his 1C's,, he has a tubed pre, which,in my opinion, goes very well with the Carver amp. Good luck and enjoy. Lotta' talk around here about the 1C's,,and rightfully so.Right now mine are powered by a Quicksilver GLA tube amp,,somewhere down the road,I'm gonna put a Belles 350a reference on it and see what it sounds like. Have fun,,seems as though you have a very nice rig.:)

I've also got a Carver C-1 pre that a few people say would sound better than the CT-Seven but then I give up volume control with the remote and I'm lazy. I will experiment with the two once the 1C's are home. I'd love a tubed pre but must save some money first.

Sorry for the late response, thank you so much for the offer!! I really hope a lot of the newer forum members will read this post, so they see how many good people hang out here!! Can't do the crossovers at this time, but will work my way up to them. I can't see the 1c's going anywhere, I already love them!
