RT25 - good deal?
Was at uptown bargains (weird thrift store that buys from salvation army) today and staring me in the face was a pair of decent RT25 bookshelves. I looked for a price, and it was $89.99, in a set of 5.
There were 2 RT25s, 2 M5s (the ugly triangle rears) and a CS101.
I don't need/want the m5s or the CS101, I just want the RT25s for bookshelves. I asked of they would split it up but they said no.
What do you think? Price not negotiable to them.

IMHO I think it is fair
RT25i went for 160.00 each retail
add the other up and its even more
plus the thrift store is a charitable type of enterprise maybe (?) -
I bought a pair of RT25 speakers for $50 from a local feller. So I reckon that's not a bad deal since you're getting the other speaks, albeit unwanted. Not the deal of the century but not a bad deal at all. I find the RT25s to be a bit on the bassy side, at least mine are. Try and audition them first if you can. Good luck.

I'll just wait for them to come down or disappear (which will make my decision easier).
Oh well, not a big deal!Main Surround -

Nope, unless you think you could dump the other speakers quickly and make up half of what you paid. Then it would be worth trying out on a whim. Who knows if they even work, one is missing a front badge, and they may have been handled roughly. For 50 bucks though it might be worth the risk for a small bedroom system."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Turns out it was "orange tagged" and i noticed the balloons flying up yesterday that said "half off orange tags!"
So I took a chance and bought the set. $45 for the entire set. I think that's a great deal for RT25s.
Unfortunately, one of the RT25s tweeter was not as responsive as it should have been. I removed the tweeter and realized that you could disassemble the tweeter magnet structure from the actual motor structure. I pulled it apart and apparently the metal locking place had shifted on the magnet. This made the gap that the motor structure floated in closed on one side. I cleaned up the coil (it had a huge grease spot on one side) and tapped the metal plate back into the center of the magnet structure.
Reassembled and tested. The tweeter came back to life!
Not a bad deal. Now to unload the CS101 and M1's on craigslist.Main Surround -
