so heres my question...i have a 7.1 reciever/setup(currently 5.1),with yamaha bookshelf rears(i am selling though, not because they dont sound good, but just want all polks),i have polk tsi 400 front mains, and polk csr center, but i know the csr isnt"voice matched"with the tsi,...im getting ready to invest more money(the littler the better)to make full 7.1,all polks, should i get rid of the csr as well, and get a tsi series center, and rears/surrounds?or can i get the r series (the r150's)rears/surrounds(alot cheaper!!!)and keep the csr center without everything being "voice matched"???yes im a newwwwbbbb...thanx.

Keep your TSi400's up front and get the CS20 (if you have room otherwise get the CS10).

Get the OWM3 from Polkdirect on Ebay. I just got a pair for $70 shipped. ;)

when did you buy the CSR? Bring it back, you must have 30 days or 90 days or something. Either that , if it sounds good together to you, then keep em and use em.

I don't know what conradicles is referring to...but I do hope that you are not 'slowpolky'?

As for running different speakers...sure lots of people do...and the CSR is NOT that BAD a match with the TSI-series (its just that the CS2/20 is a lot better center...). You can keep the Yamahas and just use them as surrounds....timbre matching is 'less' important in the back!

Benefit of the doubt on this one?

I have before in the past (for temporary solutions). I was strictly into 2 channel listening with my RT towers and then got a good deal on some Pioneer surround speakers+center. The center in itself was a little off, being that it wasnt timbre matched but it worked well for me for a year til I replaced them with polks all around. Well since my center blew out Im back to using that old Pioneer as my center, and with a little bit of tweaking on my AVR, Im pleased with the temporary solution. Its all about how you like it imo.

It shouldn't be him imo, I mean I vaguely remember him bragging about a csi5 something center and was desperately trying to sell the smaller version of it to other Polk members, the grammar may be off the same way but the gears different unless he lied to us

No no thecyclops, you'll find in time to come this forum contributes a great wealth of knowledge in all aspects of audio, and the person we were referring to was another member that, well lets just say he didnt agree when others disagreed with him.

    Hi Mike,

What I'd do is start a Separate thread on this and give us some more detail. Because I don't know what you're asking...opinions on?...the speakers....how to power them....how to set them up....what sub to use, etc.

To put it politely, you should try to keep threads somewhat related to what the original poster is asking or offering.

haha,ok thanx man...yeah i was REALLY torn on sinking mo money in my system.but from the answers i got i think im gonna buy the cs10...sell the yamahas...and maybe you can answer this(i asked earlier with no takers)would it be wise to buy another csr,and essentially use 2centers as my rears,so i wouldnt have to sell my csr as well???

Personally, I'd go for an actual pair of bookshelves or the sort for rears as opposed to 2 centers. Maybe cost difference/etc considering center channels are sold individually. If you were going to run 6.1, then Id suggest using a center as your rear, but for 7.1, I'd stick with traditional speakers but thats just an opinion. Whats your budget, could give us a better idea of what to recommend, and what would fit your system to keep it at the very least somewhat timbre-matched all around.

I was lucky to get this far!!!!!!!!!!!
I have LS 90 mathing center and LS/FX surrounds I might have to go to RM85 Satalite so I need opinions on difference from fullsize to RM85 Satalite. I will not be able to crank it up like I used to so 8X10 room is what I have

CHEAP!!!!!!!!LOL!!!....no timbre matching is most important to me at this point(and i guess if you think the csr is sufficient i may keep, dunno?)but i have found the r150's for 99 a pair w/free shipping...but again im looking for complete and utter uniformity

Don't worry about the slowpolky comment.;) Slow is another poster here that was recently causing a bit of an uproar with quite a few members...he seems to have disappeared though now.

    Welcome to Club Polk!:)

I'd at least get a CS2 or CS20 for the front soundstage. Either one will match up to the TSi400's very well. I'd pass on the CS1 or CS10 though...the smaller center channels won't do as good of a job keeping up with your towers. The center channel is really the most important speaker in a home theater setup. The center carries over 50% of a movies soundtrack, along with the majority of the dialogue...you definitely don't want to skimp on the center.

To reiterate what cnh said, timbre matching your front soundstage is a lot more crucial than timbre matching the surrounds to the fronts. There are definitely big gains to be had with a fully timbre matched setup, but you can still make an awesome system without it.

You'd be fine using the Yamaha's as surrounds for the time being. You could also pick up another CSR and use them as surrounds if you wanted to, but personally, I'd sell it and get some TSi/Monitor surrounds.

Here's my suggestion...sell the CSR and get a CS2/CS20, and use the Yammies as surrounds for a while.

The ideal surrounds for that system would be the TSi100's or TSi200's. The OWM3's or OWN5's would work very well too, and are quite a bit more compact, and more versatile as far as placement goes.

Either replace the surrounds and surround backs all in one go, or get one pair for surrounds and move the Yam's to the back. Then eventually replace the Yam's with a second pair.

kool, thanx for thelink...BTW,both the tsi,and the csr claim to have have dynamic balance drivers(whatever that is),so how are they not matched???

Different tweeters, different crossovers, enclosures that re-create either "bright sound" or something else considered "warm". A wide variety of things cause them to not be identically timbre matched, but then again some people hear it better than others, as long as youre happy with it thats what should matter most.
