Walked by an Amerigas rack and saw a notice for a $2.50 rebate (valid through 12/31/09) on their "20" lb. propane cylinder exchange: http://amerigas.com/pdfs/AmeriGas-Cylinder-Exchange-Rebate.pdf

Pretty sure you can exchange competitor's cylinders at Amerigas and rebate should be valid as long as you can cut out Amerigas proof of purchase from new cylinder.

It's much cheaper to go to your local hardware store and have them refill your old cylinder. Plus, if it's not quite empty, you don't lose any money, because they charge by the pound.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I do the propane cylinder exchange because I only need to refill the cylinder about once a year (my Weber Baby Q100 is a gas miser :))

Thought about buying a brand new empty one and getting it refilled myself, but I feel more comfortable paying a little more and getting a cylinder that has presumably been tested recently to be intact and leak free.

Yeah, but if you run out of gas at a bad time, you're screwed, but you can usually do exchanges at gas stations and grocery stores.

One thing that does piss me off about these services (at least, Blue Rhino who I've used) is that, if you have a refillable tank, and you exchange it, you're now forever stuck with exchanging it, because they use a proprietary filling system so you can't have their tanks refilled. Quite a scam they have going.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

it is sometimes a convenience to use Blue Rhino exchange
but over time it is a $$ savings to have your tank refilled
as long as the tank is in good clean shape.

I like going to the small rental store (ABC rentals) to do business -
the big box stores are more expensive and less service.

Go to your local propane company they are usually a bit cheaper then even the hardware store, at least around here. I stopped by my local ace the other day and they wanted $22 to fill a 20# I told them they were crazy and I even used to work there, I then went to a Lp company only $13.

    Best regards
