    In a nutshell..."F*&#ing WOW!!!". now that's just great information...lol

j/k Larry. "Fu*#$ng WOW!!!" pretty much sums up my thoughts on the Dodd ELP I've got on loan right now. It's really amazing how much of a difference a dedicated pre-amp can make in your system.

Good to hear you're happy with it so far. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it after you spend some more time with it.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the GFP-715. I didn't see the amp you were controlling with it. What had you been using that it is such an improvement on? Curious minds want to know.

A dedicated 2-ch pre almost always makes a difference. Glad you're enjoying it and found it to be beneficial. You are on the path.

Big Big difference, I do know that the next pre i get to play with will be a tube pre, and i have looked at the BAT's, and Dodd's.

I really wanted the Adcom GFP-750, but i am real picky about the condition of the electronics I buy, Cosmetically and the Function of the unit.

The one Sal recomended did not look like it was in the best shape Cosmetically so i passed on it plus the guy did not respond to me about the condition it was in.

But right now I am happy with the 715 till a later date.

    Thanks,

Still tinkering with it, I do know I like the TT in bypass mode the best.

I am up in the air on everything else right now, as the speakers are really starting to open up, I am in heaven.

A Pre Amp is night and day to a receiver For 2 channel set up.

All the warnings that some guys say on here about the SDA's in having a hard time going back to the other Polk Audio line's is True, I have not had a chance to listen to the LSi line so I can not comment on them, But having the SDA's set up "RIGHT" is fantastic.

    I couldn't agree more. I sold a $6,000(retail) pre/pro and upgraded to a dedicated 2 channel pre that retails for only $600.

Glad you're diggin your new Adcom pre!!! My experience led me to the opposite conclusion. I also thought that you needed a separate pre to do two channel the right way. I had a CJ tube pre along with a Krell SS pre...both sounded great in my system but when I went head to head with my NAD AVR used as the pre for my 2 channel listening, I really had to scratch my head. For the life of me I couldn't hear any significant differences that warranted keeping either the CJ or the Krell. Now it's NAD all the way for both HT & 2 channel. The pre section in NAD AVR's are designed as a stand alone 2 channel pre so I'm guessing that's why they perform as if you had a separate pre. Not all AVR's are created equal.

    Pearsall,

How old is that NAD..? Curious....as their recent stuff hasn't cut it for me--can't distinguish it from many other mid-high priced AVRs. Older gear seems much better.

My first AVR was the T773, my current AVR is the T765. I think the T765 is head & shoulders above the T773. The T765 is extremely neutral in it's two channel mode & is plenty good enough to squash any thoughts I might have had about another dedicated pre. To me there's just something about the NAD house sound that I find very satisfing. Happy camper here!!!

Ok I have been able to play with this for a little while now.

I did do an A/B comparison just to make sure I was hearing what I was hearing, with my receiver and the pre 715. There is no mistaken that the 715 kills a receiver.

The gains in clarity in the mids/lows/highs is spot on, There is no turning back now. TOOL/RUSH never sounded so good.

I pulled the receiver and put it doing bedroom duty.

I see myself trying a Tube Pre very soon, I will be looking to spend between $600-$1000

Any suggestions on what I am looking to spend? You guys have given me a few in the past. But would like a new shopping list.
