The key word I used is "some". Some people prefer direct radiators for rear surrounds and di/bipoles for the side surrounds. I cannot really comment which is better. If you did go direct radiators then you should get the A3's, not the A5's. The reason why is because the tweeters should ideally be placed above (and up to 2 feet above) the listening ear height. So it will be difficult to place the A5's unless you put them on stands - which is awkward. Some people leave the tweeters at ear height, that is my current setup but I haven't played around with mounting my FXi3's (I have a 5.1 system - no rear surrounds).

Changing your rear surrounds should not be a priority. Your priority should be...

****Take several pictures and share them****. We can help to ensure proper speaker placement. Poor speaker placement will kill your sound. This is a cheap and quick way of troubleshooting and potentially fixing issues.

From there it is personal preference on how you proceed. So the following is subjective.... I would buy a signal conditioner next. Talk to people about the advantages and disadvantages of dipoles vs. direct radiators for rear surrounds. Finally - better sound sources and room treatments are nice but they are costly; only you can decide whether you will find a benefit. Or you may want to skip everything is this paragraph, sit back and enjoy, and save your money.

oh ok, I went with rear FXi A6's because there were bigger than the RTI A3's and was told the FXI A6 was better for movies and would fill up my room more, I got the impression that A3's wouldn't be as powerful and might be kind of weak for my room.

You say you have the FXI A3's for your rear or sides? I'm looking for an ideal rear speakers for that room for the future if I want to replace the current rears and put those FXI A6's in a different room maybe next year.

So for my current setup should my rears be the FXI A6, FXI A3, RTI A3?

My recommendations are from spending way too much time on this site and reading other people's comments. Other people have said that rear surrounds should project sound going forward into the room, not to disperse sound (like a dipole would). Again, I do not have direct experience with this. I know other people have 4 dipoles for surrounds just like you do, and are happy.

My surround speakers are now-obsolete FXi3's (no A). The current equivalent is the FXi A4's which have smaller woofers. My system is only 5 channel, so dipoles are fine. For me personally I would purchase direct radiator speakers for rear surrounds if I want to 7 channel. However, my room really cannot accommodate a 7 channel HT so I may just leave it.

Forget what I said. You should just keep your FXi A6's and call it a day.

We demand pictures. Remove the Renoirs from the walls if you wish (you can do it with photoshop or physically remove it). People here like audio **** so we want to check out your system.

hmmm you have me thinking about RTI A3's for the rears, I will read more about direct radiators versus dipoles for rears. This will be a future porject logn down the road, maybe in a year or two I will put the rear FXI A6's in a different room and switch to RTI A3's for the rears. I seen some A3's on ebay used for like $70 bucks.

With that kind of scratch, he ought to be able to hire a wedding photographer to give us a whole presentation of his A/V rooms.
