Alaska cruise opinions

Hi Guys:
The wife and I are looking into an Alaskan cruise for our 20th anniversary. We've done the Eastern and Western Caribbean, so we know the basics.
What I want to know is the experiences of those who have gone before, what is worthy, what to avoid.
Since we live in the Pacific NW we can cut down on plane ticket $$, if not eliminate them altogether with a round trip cruise loop.
Thanks,
Mark

I would have liked to have had the time to do a one way cruise so we could have seen the interior more...but we had to "settle" for a roundtrip out of Vancouver. As compared to Seattle this trip has less "out to sea" time and the views were fantastic. You may want to visit this site for a lot of expereinced Alaska cruisers input. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55Yep, my name really is Bob.

Years ago the wife and I took a cruise with Special Expeditions for an Alaskan cruise up the Inside Passage.
What we really liked about Special Expeditions is that they run smaller cruise ships with 120 passenger capacity so that they can get into places the bigger cruise lines can't, shore excursions are quicker w/ fewer folks to off/on load, and they bring Naturalists/Scientists to talk about the local geology, wildlife, ecology, etc.
We were cruising one small side fjord in Alaska and the Captain saw a waterfall cascading into the fjord - he asked the passengers if they wanted a shower, we said yes, so he manuevered the bow of the ship right under the waterfall....man that water was *cold*
They get my thumbs up.

We are booked for the "inland passage" Alaskan cruise for 7 days. We fly out of LAX and into Vancouver where we board the ship. We planned for 3 days in Vancouver as well.If...
