Will reciever upconvert satelite signal?

I've decided to go to satellite tv in the next few months. I've been reading a lot about Direct TV's and Dish Network's options in HD progamming and most the websites I seen say that both Direct and Dish broadcast their HD channels in 1080i, I don't know if they do any in 1080p or which company offers more in 1080p? I have an all HDMI setup, centrally configured system, all sources connected to the reciever letting the reciever do all the work. If I switch to satellite could my system upconvert those satellite tv channels to 1080p if setup properly?
Also, any differences in picture quality between Direct TV and Dish Network and which company offers more channels in HD? I've read that Direct TV is better if you're into sports since they offer more sports channels and Dish Network is better for movies and also Dish has a cheaper price. I know it also depends on how many extra channels you want to add onto the basic deal, but I just want all the basic channels plus On Demand and 2-3 movie channels.
My setup:
Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-111fd plasma
Pioneer Elite SC-05 reciever
Oppo BDP-83fd
7.1 surround speaker system.

Please don't take my post as flippant-it's not intended that way, but I just checked Directv's website, and they have a bunch of FAQ's regarding this subject.
As far as whether or not your SC-05 can do it-I'm pretty sure it can. I've got one, and even WITHOUT an HD converter, OR 1080P tv, I get a damn good picture from my SC-05:)I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
There is no need to upscale 1080i signals to 1080p because the native signal will be best .imo upconverting that high a signal will harden the image . Go with dishnet as they have great clarify and you can get ppv in full 1080p
