Yikes. Theyre still too expensive IMO.

I recently built a new computer but didnt build it for gaming thinking Id never give up my couch and plasma big screen for a computer monitor and office chair but I got to looking at the new games out like Bioshock, Left 4 Dead and especially Dead Space (which has the coolest trailer Ive ever seen!) and these things look awesome! But when I started looking at prices for Xbox and PS3 I couldnt believe they were still $300+!! I figured theyd be at least $150'ish by now. I think Ill just invest in a $70 video card and be done with it. If I sit real close to my trusty 17" CRT monitor, I can pretend its a 42" plasma! :D

i am not a hardcore gamer either, gaming is probably the least i do on my ps3.

i have not used it as a media server but it does have the capability. i store plenty of music in the ps3's harddrive itself and have not felt the need to set that up.

it costs only a little more than a decent blu ray player and with all the extra you get i think it was worth the extra money imo.

In this economy you may not have to wait too long. Cheapo Magnavox Blu-ray Players are already on the market at less that 125 'new'...99 by this X-mas?

I'll decide whether I want an Xbox 360 or a PS3 when either one can be had in the $150ish range, and games are $10-$15 a piece.

I play video games for all of an hour every month...if that...so it's just not worth any more than that to me. I've got an original Xbox, and I think my SNES and Sega Genesis get more use than the Xbox does...lol I'm an old school gamer...I stick to my ROOTS.:p

I was hesitant to pull the trigger on my PS3 back when they still cost $400+, but I will tell you this, it is, IMHO the best $400 I have spent in my HT to date. I don't play games much either but the Blu-Ray aspect alone nevermind it's ability to be a Media storage device, Web browser, and the fact that it is bluetooth capable and wireless out of the box makes it well worth the price now. It will be a steal if the price comes down $100 in August.

My audio habit began with video games. As the games got more advanced, so did my equipment to reproduce them with a greater sense of reality.

Isn't the PS2 $99? And HOW long has that thing been out? Don't hold your breath. :)

I bought a 60GB PS3 at launch, then traded for a brand new 40GB + $100 so the guy could have backwards capability.

My PS3 is the only piece of equipment in my rig that doesn't stand a chance of getting replaced.

After this price drop, don't expect there be another one for a long time. Its been pretty much assured that the usual 5 year next gen console won't happen this time. Some say there won't be a new console to 2013 at the earliest.

You guys make it sound like we're all absolutely dying to get a PS3.;)...lol

I'm more than happy waiting another 5 years to get one. If it means I can get one for $100-$150, it was a wait well worth it IMO.

Like I said, I never play video games, and when I do, it's old school SNES and Sega Genesis the majority of the time. I'm not willing to pay $300-$400 for a game console that I'll use for a total of 2 hours a month.

You can make the argument of it's media center capabilities, but frankly that doesn't interest me that much. It obviously does interest other people, and for them it's great.

When I want to listen to music, I put in a CD...when I want to watch a movie, I put in a DVD(even a VHS tape from time to time:eek:). When I want to use the internet...I get on the computer.

When I want to make the jump to Blu-ray...I'll buy a stand alone Blu-ray player. Like I said...PS3's are great for some people...just not for me.;)

If I was going to get one of the new consoles, it would be a 360, not a PS3. The 360 just has better games IMO, with the exception of a few PS3 exclusive titles.
