Is this one of the "new" production drivers or an actual driver out of an original Monitor or SDA? I might be interested if it's an original driver, not one of the new reproductions.

I honestly do not know the differences.
    would this information help....
On the speaker basket is a paper tag "Assembled in Mexico"
On the magnet stamped in black ink "May 19 1994"

thanks... I'll have to learn more about new reproductions and recognize it.

Where/how did you get the driver? Do you know what model it came out of. Sounds like an original driver as they were assembled in Mexico.

They are designed to be drop in replacements and depending on the MW model, may actually cover a couple vintage MW drivers. They're new, so keep that in mind when it comes to using the word "better".

Many of the vintage folks prefer to find model specific, MW specific drivers because they also match physically....aesthetically. The new drivers don't have exposed leads for the voice coil for example. Hey, and they can be much cheaper in some cases. YMMV.

I'm sure someone can post pics of that particular difference if they feel like it. I don't believe it's necessary to purchase 8 new drivers from Polk unless you have 8 bad drivers.

Were the original MW 6502's all assembled in mexico? as the stuffed one i'm looking at right now says DEC 26 1991 stamped on it along with 'designed and engineered by polk audio USA.

    I'll take a photo.

I'm not sure when the driver manufacturing changed when it comes to the MW series. They sonically don't change but at some point, aesthetically change as far as the dust cap and voice coil leads.

my ( soon to be dstep17 ) driver also has the same round label on the magnet but dated may 19, 1994 in black ink.

however there is another label - small paper tag -that is on the side of the speaker basket below the terminals that is printed " Assembled in Mexico " ( in my picture #6 you can see the white label but not the letters ).

My wife literally JUST blew out my newly acquired Monitor 7's... switched from her iPod to Radio and didn't realize volume was cranked and radio came on and POP POP POP.... done :(

It seems like the other speaker survived, but the one is totally blown out.... Any help in getting a replacement would be GREATLY appreciate, as I've literally had these speakers for two days; fell in love with them instantly, and now as soon as they came into my life, they're out...

Very disappointing to say the least. So if this is somehow still available, I would LOVE to get a "circa" replacement rather than a "new" to balance out sound with the other seemingly okay speaker.

please email me at tripn4days@yahoo.com if this has no takers. I can paypal you immediately. Thanks
