I am out of cleaning solution form my Vinyl and was wondering if any of you vinyl geeks;) had suggestions for a home brew or a good product to get that does not require a machine to use. Also I though I would share a vinyl care guide I found. I have yet to read it through but thought it may be useful for some...

I wish I had the funds for one, but at this point I need to do this on the cheap...The Gear... That looks like good stuff for a fair price hearing.
I use Triton X114 as a surfactant and if you decide to use the Laura Dearbon's formula I will send you enough for several gallons. I add 8 drops to a gallon.
I check my cart using a microscope for any build up and have none. Anyway, old TT, DIY solution, record cleaning brush and a modified mini shop vac does the trick. If I had a large LP collection to justify one of the RCMs I would own one.

You may want to consider one of these stylus cleaners. It works just great.

This may be a stupid question, but I see your recommending a steam cleaning system for vinyl, how would you do this? I have a large steam unit to take the wrinkles out of clothing, would that work for cleaning the records also?

Hello Jimmy. Click onto this link and your question will be answered. Lots of great vinyl information throughout those pages.

As for your steam cleaner? Try it on an album that you don't mind being ruined first and make sure that you have steam and not boiling water droplets hitting the LP. You want to clean the LP, not melt the grooves.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

Thanks for the link, lots of great stuff to read.
Anyone have opinions on what a good inexpensive (less than $100) cartridge might be. Right now I have an old Stanton 681EEE with a new 20yr old stylus.

I've heard very good things about the Shure M97xE and the AT120E/T.
If you can spring for a few more bucks, check out the AT440MLa.

This is very confusing, I haven't used my TT in over 20 years, I have no idea what a good cartridge is today.......The Shure looks good, I used to have an M91ED. I'm also thinking about replacing just the stylus on my Stanton 681EEE..........any thoughts.
Thanks for all your help, I'm really enjoying listening to my LP collection, my wife is starting to get into it too.

What kind of turntable are we talking about here?
A Sony PS-4300 in immaculate condition, I bought it in 1976. I replaced the Shure M91ED with a Stanton 681eee in 1978, which is what I'm using today.

I just looked it up Jimmy. You'll be fine with the Shure M97xE.
Edit: amazon has the best price on it now for 61.17 w/free shipping. Here's the link again.

Thank you for all your help.
I ordered the Shure from Amazon.
