i'm about to upgrade my LCR from my current cheap Philips FB975 setup to im thinking monitor 50's with a cs2. would like to get some opinions the way im thinking about placing them. also, i know i shouldn't even really ask this, because the difference will probably be night and day, but how much difference do you think the sound of the m50's/cs2 would be over the current philips i have? current system setup is listed in my sig. thanks.

That looks reasonable....you may have to play with the sub position a bit, that might be a good place for it or not the best! Perhaps I'd move the LS closer to the couch if possible.

And yeah! You'll notice a difference in the surround sound over a Philips. What are you going to use to POWER those speakers because that's ALSO a factor!

    And the sub is?

An Onkyo 604 will do those speakers fine! And the PSW10, although an entry level sub, will give the M50s the bottom end they don't have in what seems to be a smallish room. That's really the optimal room size for the PSW10!

You'll be surprised how good that speaker set will sound with the 604!

i have absolutely no problem with this sub, i had a small PIO sub before this one and there is a night and day difference between the 2, unfortunately, the current placement is about the only place it can go due to the other furniture in the room.

Newegg often has sales or coupon codes on Polk speakers. Check www.xpbargains.com or www.slickdeals.net from time to time and do a search for Polk and you may find a promo code or a sale alert. I saved $60 on the pair of Monitor 60's I recently bought by using promo codes at Newegg. The code was good for $30 off one speaker and was only good once per account. So I made a second account and it worked like a charm.

That looks a lot like my dorm room setup last year, except I had an RA knocking on my door every ten minutes because I had my dwspro400 right next to the door, ha. Imagine if I had my svs then...

right now, there is a small dresser there, that i don't really need, and it's gone as soon as i get all my new stuff. the only reason i didn't include the dresser in the drawing is because it won't be there long and the drawing represents the actual layout im gonna go with when i get my stuff. so, i'll probably try it in the right front corner of the room when i get everything situated and see how much better it sounds than it does now.

Subs love corners --- especially if they are small or underpowered.

i've been moving stuff around and cleaning up in general trying to get ready to do all of this. i ended up buying monitor 60's instead of 50's from newegg since they had them for 129 per speaker, ended up paying 260 shipped for the pair of M60's. still gotta get me a center though, hopefully find one in the next couple of weeks. i actually plan on moving the sub to the front right corner of the room, i gotta get a longer sub cable though because the one i have is only like 3'.

The M60s are a nice compromise...a bit more ooomph than the 50s and yet not that much larger in size. I think you'll like those...they compare quite favorably in that price range with most major manufacturers. I find them 'superior' to the Klipsch Synergy line for example...but then again I can't stand most HORNS!

a quick question, i know most of you would recommend the cs2, but would it not make more sense to match the cs1 with the 60's and run the same size speakers all the way across?

Definitely go with the CS2 it's the best in the series and will match up with the M60s fine and give you more sound. Remember that center is going to carry the bulk of the surrround track info! I have M70s and the CS2 but I know a lot of other guys that run CS2s with M50s and love it!

I agree with cnh, the cs2 will give better focus for movies dialogue. The larger the center the better and keep in mind you are staying in the same series of center anyway.

this is probably gonna be the way i go as well, i got my M60's today, lookin around for a good deal on a new or used cs2 now, and when my budget allows, ill grab the M40's for surrounds.
