1.2tl listening report

It's been a few weeks now since I road tripped the 1.2tl's out of PA.
I have sold the Denon POA 2200's the original owner used. I am driving the pair with a single QSC PLX 3402......700W/ch at 8 ohms. This amp is quicker than the Denons, PRAT (pace, rhythm and timing) is much better, and creates far tighter bass and some SERIOUS SLAM!
So far I am quite impressed, not only by the sound but also the overall condition of the pair. I am still running the SL 3000 tweeters. I do plan to order up 8 RDO's soon and drop them in. After that may come some xover mods. You all have posted some detailed info to mod the xovers that I can follow with little difficulty.....one of the things that makes this forum so enjoyable for me is the wealth of good info here. For that I thank all of you.
I have been completely and totally pleased with how the big dogs sound. A good balance between resolution and music-friendly. I've been down the super high res speaker route in the past and find as I get older that I do not want to listen to a small pile of high-quality audiophile recordings....I want to enjoy source material that is not so well recorded....Give me MORE music to listen to, not less~!! I find the 1.2tl's to be just forgiving enough to make this possible, and that's a tough act.

Some still prefer the sl3000's sound over the rdo's.Are you sure you need the swap? great purchase by the way.;)Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Hi Paul; Glad to hear you're happy with the 1.2s. Nice pick-up on them. Are they that much better than the 2.3s that you had?
I also drive my sda's with a qsc amp and think it's a very nice match up as well. Good luck with your mods; I'm betting you'll be especially pleased with the crossover upgrade. -

The 2.3tl's are damn close. The best way I can put it is there is just that much "more" with the 1.2tl. However if you own 2.3tl's and are agonizing over the differences, don't! The 2.3tl's are definitely in the hunt.
I'm still walking on air over these. Very impressed for sure. Yesterday I also had a QSC RMX 2450 on them for a while and although slightly less output then the PLX3402, you could clearly hear the sound as different due to the different implementation of Class H topology.

I'm very curious as to what type of benefit you expect to hear going "half and half" with the 3000s and the 198s? -
I want a little more sharpness or brightness that the 3000's give but not too much half and half should be pleasant too me .... " He who dies with the most equipment wins Right ? "

Which tweeter's in the arrangement are you planing on using the SL3000's for?"Make a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Light
a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." -

It's going to sound funky at best. I tried it, ordered the rest of the RD0's the next day and never looked back.Political Correctness'.........defined

At minimum I would think there would be some phasing issues as well as some timbre matching issues. The progressive point source needs identical tweets to perform best. Certainly no hurt in trying it as you can always order more.

Yep, as I said, funky at best. I'll even go further and say that anyone who thinks it sounds good should have their hearing checked because something is wrong.Political Correctness'.........defined

I've heard the 1.2TLs with half n half tweeters and can guarantee that they sound better with all of them matching and the RDO's being my choice for the right one.

Before I went and spent a ton on x-over upgrades and so forth, I'd ditch the pro amp and look for something a little higher up the food chain.
YMMV

Great advice Troy.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.
