Adcom 5800

Today is not a good day for me. I had one Adcom 5800 hookup to my SDA SRS and when I power up I saw the light on R CH for Distortion alert. I did power of the amp and saw there are two green light for each CH and one stayed on. I look all wiring and try to poer up but it did not. It is now blowing main fuse back of the amp. Just to let all of you know that the inner green light of r side sty on after new fuse go bad. Any Idea what went wrong on that amp. I was going to get two used Adcom on this Sunday 5802 and two 565 mono. I had one amp that is almost25 year old Pioneer it still in working oder but that Adcom make me have a sad day. Thanks Roy.     The 5800 isn't a common ground amp. The negative terminals need to get grounded together

    Remember RoyBoy I also mentioned in your other thread the 5802, 565 are NOT common ground. Neither are the 585, 5800, 5500.

    Sorry you had to learn the hard way. Hopefully it can be repaired fairly easily.

    P.s. You can NOT use non-common ground amps with SDA's. Always, Always check before hooking up an amplifier to SDA's

    OH boy now i know. I did not check that amp. Is that way when I power up there was a paping in speakers ?. Totaly for got about it and now I have take care it. thanks for the info. Now I am a Roy bad boy.

    I check all of them and they all have same reading. I like to know there are two green light for each CH and way only one stay on. Thanks

    Ok I had check all resistors on top of caps and one side read 1.5 M oms and the other side read 00.6 oms. I think that one is gone bad. other then that rest of all one side to other read same. need to know where I can get new one. thanks

    OK. I had a bad resistor in top of Caps bord in location R102 which read only 00.6 oms. Other side moor like 1.5 M oms whit dvm. Where can I get that resistor ?. I am going to call adcom today but like to know if any one of you think that I need to replace some other parts whit that resistor ?. Thanks Roy

    Thanks. He ask me to call him but I did not have his #. So I send a PM to ben few days ago whit my #. I think he is out of twon. Because I have not got any call or PM from him yet.     sorry to hear about your amp, the silver lining is you can know get something much better for the same price to drive your SDA, the Adcom is harsh with SDA and has unrefined circuitry. As said you need a common ground amp. Additionally, I would talk GV27 about your present amp, I believe he is a certified audio technician, never send your products too anyone not certified, just bad juju for you.

    I never had adcom before so I waned to try but for got about grund issue. Any way I got call from steve how work in part deparment and he sad that that amp need to be send to there repair center and I can not do any repair to it by my self. I am auto tec and do lots of ELEC repair in car. If I can get the parts and how to do some moor test then I can repair that unit. As long go how that sound I did not like it. It my be because I did not do the hook up the way needed to get done. Take care Roy

    Hi every one. I am going to send that Amp to service center and like to know if any update need to get done ?. Like new Caps or any thing else. If any one know any good repair shop in Long Island New York Where I can go to ?. Any info will help. Thanks Roy

    Hi Face. I am in Hunthington station on 110 zip 11746 in Suffolk. I went to ADCOM web and see only one place in Smith twon. Any body else ? can do the jab that well be nice to know.
