Well tonight has been busy. It is officially my B day today, and I am free of the kids. I stuffed my SDA's fairly full. Not tight, but full. I told my friend Jerry not to do it. I said it would interfere with the PR's working properly. Well the I was wrong. The mids, and bass are much cleaner. I used Wal Cheese poly fill. I bought a 10# box. and all I can say is I am at a much higher level. It has been a while since I have been caught up with my stuff via here, or my life. Glad I did it.

The SDA-1C's and Monitor 5's I upgraded both ended up with about 70% internal volume of polyfill (after treating the bare internal enclosure walls with foam). Arrived at that amount after listening tests with tests with different levels. Around 70% gave me the impression of the most coherent sound.

    So, I agree with you.

    ....And Happy B'day, Ben.

Thanks Geoff. I doubted it hard core, but my friend tried it without my blessing, and the clarity of the mids improved greatly.

It makes perfect sense that stuffing behind the mids should improve coherence. Technically, there's nothing wrong with stuffing a sealed enclosure with a PR as long as keep the stuffing away from the PR. You can use some sort of netting to keep it in place. Keep in mind you're also changing the box's tuning, so it may work better in some cases than others.
