EQ - RTi a9's
Hey guys,
I am not entirely sure what type of question this is, but it is regarding both an "EQ" and the RTi a9's. I was looking at the reviews on the polk site for the a9's and saw this review:
"CLARITY !! Crystal clear sound. Never had a tower before, but easily gets the job done with no indication of straining. I've had just as many compliments on the cabinets as I have on sound quality. Money well spent. I like them so much , I bought a second pair ! Sonic performance beyond my dreams. If you think they sound awesome out of the box , add a EQ and you'll get weak in the knees. The speakers open up even more , not that there was a issue minus EQ.Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone !!!!"
Other than a glowing recommendation for the a9's, what is this EQ? I would presume an equalizer, but what does it do? Is it beneficial?
My second question is regarding whether I would have enough power to make the a9's really shine with a yamaha rx-v659 (7 channel times about 95 watts i believe) and a Sherwood Newcastle 7 channel a965 amp. I am pretty sure the amp pushed about 125-160 watts a channel. I would be using it in a 5.1 system though.
Thank you all yet again for your advice!

Your need a little more power

leroy,
I would need a bit more power even with the amp? How does the whole amplification thing work, does it just add 95+125? I remember seeing that you recommended the a5's and the a9's, not the a7's as a result of their lack of a middle driver. If I have a pb12 ultra sub from svs, would you really say that I would lose no quality from getting an a5 rather than an a7? This is assuming that an a9 is out of question because you said I did not have quite enough power.
Thanks so much, I come up with another question every week and guys always help me out,

It doesn't add the power together. The power amp section of the receiver will be bypassed, and the external amp will power the speakers.
As far as EQ goes, if it's for HT, then it might not be a bad idea, but most AVR's have EQ built in. If it's for 2 channel, EQ's are the devil IMO.The nirvana inducer-

But wouldn't it be cool if you could - like clusters of PCs for compute power??
Imagine a ganged line of Carvers for 1.21 gigawatts...enough to power a flux capacitor!
