Do any of you guys listen to these channels? I listen to the rock channel at my Dad's house. Purdy darn good quality recordings there. IMO. I found a truck load of new bands too. That was cool.
Well, I gotta make it scarce, I will be back on later to see what ya'll think.

I *had* digital cable for a while, and yes, it seemed to be somewhere between cassette and cd. Good quality, but not-quite-there, if you follow. Regardless, the non-commercial music only channels have a certain cool-factor about them, it was 'neat'.
What about digital cable is digital anyway? That friggin ugly box I had didn't have any DAC's in it, as far as I knew, and no digital outs either. Came over the same friggin coax as 'regular' (analog?) catv. Enlighten me. As far as I'm concered, all dig cable did was add a few channels, a new box, a new remote, and a few more $ to the bill. I still don't see what was 'digital' about it.

I agree, Most of the shows on there are not digital. If you listen to the comercials; it says includes 'some' digital channels. Most of the channels are in 'regular' TV so to speak. Although, with it calibrated right, it will sound good, and the picture will be good. Other than that, Its just like Satellite TV. Not perfect sound or Picture. If I'm not mistaken Satellite cost less to. Ohh well, The music channels were pretty cool with absolutely no stops; and no moron hosts.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. The cable systems today are referred to as hybrid fiber-coax. What this means is from the central station to hubs the transport is fiber then converts to coax/RF then to the home. Because the coax runs are shorter they use the mpeg 2 format and the losses over the cox are not so great the SNR does not overcome the broadcast.
The mpeg format is a compression system that now the bandwidth requirements are smaller and you can pack more channels into it. Furthermore the digital cable systems are 2 way where the analog systems werew 1 way only. Its pretty cool stuff but I like my direct tv...

I used to listen to these channels when my girlfriend got them at her place. It makes for good background music. That is in no way to disrespect her. I liked the rap channel. They had a pretty good variety to their stuff. I got to listen to a bunch of stuff that I wouldn't chose on my own. I liked it for that. Plus, those channels had better variety for everything compared to the local radio stations. Lousy cow college.
