I am listening to Rage Against the Machine right now...

The bass guitar, drums, guitar licks, vocals... perfect...

Anyone who says a higher end system can't rock it out -- obviously has the wrong speakers.

    This Symphonic Line CDP has brought so much separation to the picture...

    Guitars that normally were more inwards in the stage are now outside the stage, etc etc...

    Brings a whole new dimension to how everything is presented... I dig it

    I will need to make a better CDP my next toy... I am glad you are enjoying it.

    I went years thinking the CDP was a CDP...

    Over the years, guys like Jesse have made me realize that obviously the source sets the tone for everything else. Particularly as the speakers get better... the source makes your sound.

    This thinking goes back to what I was telling you earlier about my system philosophy. I like my source to set the tone and the remainder of my system to be very neutral. Its amazing how good rock can sound when played with a good source.

    I spent two hours today listening to what I consider the best home audio system I've heard thrown together by an audiophile buddy...it handled everything I threw at it.

    Reference 3A Episode speakers
    Accustic Arts CD player MK 3
    Bow Technologies Walrus Power Amplifier
    Audio Research SP-15 Pre-amp

    From The Good The Bad and The Queen to Nine Inch Nails to Grizzly Bears latest album this system had it all...

    The Transparency of a Wilson Audio/VTL setup without the etch or sizzle on the ears. It was unbelievable. Sadly he's a gear head and will likely change out everything in two months. Come to think of it this one man has allowed me to hear more gear over the years so I haven't had to fork out bread to hear it for myself.

    I remember considering that Walrus, I recall what was intriguing was the single gain-stage, very nice, albiet some local feedback which I have softened on and accept can be done without sacrifice, looked like a very nice piece from a company who is dedicated to sound, the impedance though was a bit iffy for my pre and I was a bit more power hungry, never could hear one so I passed.

    Sounds like a great rig you heard. There is a Bow pre and Walrus right now on the Gon at 4500.00, would make a great front end to any system.

    I agree 100%, but it has to be recorded well in the first place. Put in Metallica's Black album sometime. It sounds better (less annoying) on a lesser system. Way too many flaws to sound good thru a nice source.

    I'm curious to know why you're not using the MIT Z Cord II AC cables with the pre and CDP. I thought with two network boxes per cable that the Z Cord II would be ideal for those components.

    The Shotguns are a far better cable. Their construction is better and their just a higher quality cable. One "box" from the Shotgun series is of higher quality than two of the boxes from the Z Cord II. Essentially all the do in a Z Cord II is take the box from the lesser Z Cord and duplicate it. More so double filtering - where as the Shotgun power cable is more precision tuned to do exactly what it needs to do. Now obviously a Shotgun AC2 would be a far better choice as you get two far better tuned boxes than just one...
