LSiC replaced with PSB Synchrony One Center

For the last 5 years or so my HT has been 4 LSi15s, an LSiC, and a PSW1000. During that time I have been very happy with the sound for both HT and music. Recently I was in an upgrade mood and decided to replace the LSiC. Not that there was anything wrong with it, but I felt a bigger CC might add to the movie experience.

Once I decided to upgrade, the question became what CC to get. Actually, that was not to hard a decision. My 2 channel system is using PSB Synchrony One towers (replaced SDA-2), and they sound great. I cannot get over how good the system sounds. Yet, when I would listen to music in the HT room, I was impressed at how close the LSi15s could sound to the PSBs.

So, I ordered a PSB Synchrony One Center. After it arrived last week I just did a drop in replacement without any tweaking just to let it settle in. Friday night I got out the SPL meter, ran the AVR test tones, and it was dead on with the settings for the rest of the speakers. Great I thought. This is a good sign.

Then came the ultimate test, Terminator 3. This is my reference DVD for any tweaks, and I must have watched this movie 20 times by now, so I have every sound and scene memorized.

Wow!! What can I say. The PSB blended in great with the LSi15s. The center sound was wider, more open, clearer, and seamlessly flowed between the L/R speakers. Plus, and I swear this is true. The better sound made the picture seem better!! Granted, that is psycho BS, but it sure did seem to look better.

I have to give the PSB Synchrony One Center two thumbs up, at least when used with 4 LSi15s.

As a side-note, the rest of the HT is a Sony 9100ES DVD, Sony 7100ES AVR (pre-amp only), Sunfire TGA-5400, and a Hitachi 57” RPTV ISF calibrated.

That's good to keep in mind. I will be setting up my LSi9's for the new HT, but I don't have a center yet. I am still lusting about the big big center like EarlyB did in December--Not sure yet what I'll do.

    Better dispersion, eh? :)

There is a PSB dealer near me, but they're appointment only.
