A 12" vs 8"
The 8 has great power, but a 12" speaker will pressurize a large room better.
8" for quick punchy music bass... a 12" for HT (for these subs mentioned) -
I have a PSW125 and am very pleased with the results in my humble set up. What are you using as the rest of your speakers, AVR? Room size can also be an issue, the larger the room, obviously needs a larger sub. My recommendation of those two would be the 125, but there are better subs out the (not a knock on Polk at all, I love my 125) Epik, SVS, Velodyne to name a few, but they also have a much larger price tag.HT Rig

+1 for the 400. I used to have a roommate who owned the PSW125. I would characterize it's bass as being somewhat loud and boomy compared to other subs out there, especially the DSW 400. I own a DSW 400 and it's my favorite sub for music. It has nice tight, detailed, and hard hitting bass. It does a great job for home theater also. To me it has every bit as much impact as the PSW125, while being much more refined and musical.

I have a dswpro 400 and I have loved it. I just got an svs though, and have since been trying to sell my 400. It is in great condition and you could have it for around 250 if you are interested? I am in either 18940, 1602, or ny, ny. Will help with shipping if necessary.Bulls make money.
