I got a dedicated transport the other day and am liking it more each time I listen to it.Its a theta data basic and its a beast compared to my other gear,,,except the 565s of course.Built like a tank.
At first I was a little upset because as I started to listen to some tunes I just thought to myself--SELF-it sounds a little warm and Im not a warm kind of guy...But after a few songs I began to notice its not warm at all and in fact it was giving me the kind of SQ Ive been wanting---And that is the mids not so forward and in your face.The bass was tighter with more impact to it, and the upper highs more detailed and cleaner sounding.Ill admit I would like a little more in the 4k-8k but that can be taken care of later with some tweaks and mods.:D.......Im starting on the power cables now and in fact have a MAC source on the way for the DAC.Now I have to order one for the theta.:cool:...The preamp is going to require a DIY Im afraid since it has no IEC socket and its a two prong plug.:mad:
All in all its a big improvement and Im very happy with the SQ.Better detail,resolution and clarity....Add yet another subtle improvement to my system.Its all starting to add up now and its come a-long way in this past year thanks to all the advice I got right here at CP.So thanks to all of you for helping me along with my upgrades.I apologize to anyone Ive been a P I T A to with my constant Questions and seeking advice.

    I am going to be modding my GFA-565's in about 2 months. There are some cheap fusible resistors in there, and the output resistors are cheapies. I am thinking Mills for the outputs. There are a few of us working on a solid pre here. Hold tight:)

    I have yet to remove then to see if there is any difference.Im planning on doing that next friday just to hear how it sounds without them.I think I made a bad choice with the values.Maybe a 20uf/1uf would be better than the 12uf/1uf I have in there now.I saw one of your posts in the DIY forum and that was the values you were planning to go with.What can I expect to hear with the 20/1 VS the 12/1 ??

    The problem with older caps is they "slow down" from what I hear. The smaller values are supposed to help with transients. I have not done mine yet:o I may ask GV what he thinks would be a good match. The values I got were from DIYaudio.com

    Congrats on getting the Theta trans.Those guys were at the forefront of digital playback development in the 90's and built some excellent products.

    The price seemed right at only 272.00.Ive seen quite a few of them sell for 400.00 on audiogon over the last 6 months.
