I have my first baby on the way and I am going to have to upgrade from my RT800i tower speakers to bookshelfs as I don't want the little guy to pull over the towers and hurt them or himself.

I'm looking for a pair of good sounding bookshelfs in excellent condition. Please post or PM me what you might have available.

What makes you think a bookshelf [which is top heavy] will be any better than a floor stander?

Never mind. I missed this......You may want to look at a Polk LSi9

My living room has built-in shelves. Right now I have my towers to the left and the right of the shelving on the floor.

I would like to place these speakers on the shelves to get them off of the ground. I could even secure them to the shelves if he's really persistent.

Anyway, here is a pic of the living room so you can see the situation...

Yeah it will. I am actually going to retire the dual centers and push the TV back a bit and place a smaller center (possibly an Orb Mod2) in front of the TV for the new center.

Still in the market. Let me know if you have something I might like.

Lol. Nah my stuff is all small beans. CS-250S is all I have right now. I just cleared my entire Polk setup to the storage room until my 6.5" MW7009's get back from service for my RT8s.

I'm running an entire Paradigm 5.0 setup in the mean time, 2 Titans, 2 Atoms, and a CC300 center. Sub is nothing great. I'm going to steal my LS F/X set back from my dad tonight though. Happy fathers day!

Keep your set up. You can make it look like this:

Awesome! Somehow I don't think that will work.

I appreciate the effort. Now if someone can just help me find an equally impressive set of speakers!

I'm concerned that your smaller center (pretty small in order to fit below the TV image) will not provide what you need and are used to. You've got what looks like a pretty big room to fill, and there's usually no substitute for size when it comes to speakers.
    Speakers: Polk LSi15
Pre: Adcom GFP-750 with HT Bypass
    Amp: Pass Labs X-150
    CD/DVD Player: Classe CDP-10
Interconnects: MIT Shortgun S3 Pro XLR
    Speaker cables: MIT MH-750 bi-wire
    TT:Micro Seiki DD-35
    Cartridge:Denon DL-160
    Phono Pre:PS Audio GCPH

Valid concern. I'm willing to give it a try. If it doesn't do the job I might be able to fit a regular center channel in front of my TV --- although probably not one of my CS400s as they are pretty deep.

This is a very valid concern! I had the same problem with my RTA11TL's and my youngest when he was about 2. He like to get behind them and actually pushed one over. Fortunately it was stopped by the bookshelf next to the speaker and did not fall on him or anyone else. I ended strapping the speakers to the floor with metal straps. I attached one end to where the spikes screw in on the bottom of the speakers and screwed the other end into the floor. I'm sure that it creates issues for sound coupling but you could not push them over.

If you really want bookshelf speakers, I have a pair of TSi100 that I might part with, not nearly an upgrade though.

Rather than put them in your built-ins, I would get a set of BTech BT-77 wall mounts and put a pair of LSi7's or 9's on them. could mount just behind and a little lower than the wall sconces you have.

I think that I am leaning toward a pair of RT55i (if I can find them) or maybe a pair of Lsi7. I'm afraid the RTi28s might be a little too small.

Thanks everyone. I ended up finding a RT55i plus speaker stands for a very good price. They'll fit perfectly on the shelf and give me peace of mind when the little monster gets moving around the floor.

This really was my ideal situation. I love my RT800i and these are basically the same speaker in a smaller form. Perfect for me.

Now I just have to work on the center speaker...

I prefer the 55i's to the 800i's. All things being equal - placement being the concern in this instance - I'd say that you actually have, in fact, upgraded your speakers.

    Two Channel Setup:

    Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3
    Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
    DAC: Arcam irDac
    Source: iMac
    Remote Control: iPad Mini

    3.2 Home Theater Setup:

    Fronts: Klipsch RP-160M
    Center: Klipsch RP-160M
    Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
    AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
    Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790
    TV Source: DirecTV Genie
