I have a Denon 2808 AVR with main L&R pre out to Carver TFM-45. Currently running BRDP and DVR, CDP and TT to AVR

I want to integrate my Adcom 750 to the system.

But I am confused.

I get connecting my TT and CDP to Adcom. The problem is connecting the AVR.

According to Adcom manual I run AVR pre out for mains to Adcom Processor in. THe processor out of Adcom to AVR Audio 1.

Adcom main 1 output to Carver AMP.

I get no volume with DVR.

Low volume with CDP with processor off and no change when raising level.

Switching processor on is too loud even with level at minimum,

HELP ME !

Here's how I have mine connected:

    IN
CDP goes to the CD IN
Receiver goes to the Processor IN

    OUT
One set of outputs going to the Amp

When listening to my CDP I have the "Processor" switch disengaged (light off)
When listening to the AVR I have the "Processor" switch engaged (light on)

I usually listen to 2-channel in passive mode, so I also have my "passive" switch engaged (light on) at all times.

Hope this helps you get started. I don't have a TT, so can't help there...

Edit: When the "processor" switch is on, the 750 is just a passthrough so the volume control on it does nothing. If the volume is too loud, that's because of what the AVR is sending it.

Thanks tcrossma, Typical excited rookie mistake, cables in wrong place.

I did have to put a ground cheater plug on the Adcom and remove the removeable ground pin on the DAC power cable to get rid of a power hum.

Never had a power hum problem before but I will adress that later.

    Now for some music.

Sorry tsmith didn't get your PM's until you got it figured out. Glad it went smoothly......er, sort of. Let us know what you think after a bit. The ground hum thing is a bit weird.

No worries H9 and thanks for being there just in case.

Early observations is about 3' wider sound stage for each speaker. The highs are like I have heard other people describe. Like a veil has been lifted. The vocals blend much better with the rest of the music where before the vocals were taller and more forward and louder, almost over powering.

I love being able to put the AVR back in the path for watching movies and TV.

I also love having my music sources connected to the Pre.

Not sure what is up with the ground hum. I was thinking of getting another Audioquest AC 3 power cable anyway but for now it is remedied I just never liked using cheater plugs.

That pre takes about 30-45 minutes to fully open up and start getting the best sound. You should also notice how much more centered the center imaging is. Also the depth of the entire sound stage should make your jaw drop. :D:p.

The remote vol control takes some getting used to. Short, rapid bursts work best.

I really only had a chance to listen to about 3 songs on a CD and 2 songs on the TT then I had to spend some quality time with my wife watching a movie.

I will do a full review once I am able to spend some serious listening time. I would have had more time tonight if not for loosing an hour re-arranging the rack and making bone head mistakes.

Looks like the Adcom GFP-750 is in the Harmony 1 remote database but will require a lot of reprogramming. That will come later.

I think you are going to be very happy with the Adcom pre.

I was up to past mid-night listening which is way past my bed time.

This pre has transformed my system in so many ways. Even moderate volume sounds good, meaning the sound stage is solid with no holes if that makes sence.

It is amazing what you can learn here at CP if you just listen and take action.

My GFP-750 will be here on Tuesday. The good thing I just received my SurroundBar 360 for the living room, I'm going to hook up my projector in the living room and use the 1.2TL's in a spare bedroom for 2 channel only :)

Can't wait to hear the Adcom, it will be replacing an Onkyo HT Receiver that I have been using for 5 years.

My only source is a Denon 3910 atm. Eventually I'd like to introduce a TT.

The only negative is that the seller of the Adcom could not find the remote, I got the unit cheaper but I have no remote. I really don't need one, I want to program my Philips Pronto to control the Adcom but I need either the codes or I need to find a remote to copy the codes.

Anybody in NJ have a Adcom GFP-750?, maybe I can swing by with my Pronto and learn your codes? :o

PM sent on a possible remote solution for you.

That must be for a processor. Looks nothing like the GFP-750 remote.

Mine still has the protective plastic cover on the face.

Since the Harmony 1 is now programmed for the 750 the Adcom remote will be put away.
