Hi,

I’m new in this forum and this is my first post.

While surfing I came across a discussion where some say Facebook is not profitable yet. How this can happen? According to them it sells stock to cover expenses. What do you think? Any idea?

Interesting choice of a first post...

Facebook is just another version of Myspace (which is very profitable). I don't think they'll last past their current version unless the update/add new content (like MyKaroke).

It is strange. No hidden li nks I can find. I would think MySpace and Facebook would be beyond this kind of marketing (And neither posts have been positive towards either).

As far as Facebook being profitable.... they can say whatever they want on paper, they're making plenty of cash.

It is an interesting question though...how do these places make money? Is it just through the companies that advertise on their websites? You don't have to pay for a myspace of facebook account or anything...

It's part advertising, but I also think a huge part is for the ability for companies to gather demographic data from all the users.

This can be done easily with basic info from accounts (name, age, race, sex, etc). Also, i'm sure companies that advertise a lot will have people dedicated to getting a "feel" for what ads to run and who to target them at.

I don't really care whether either of them is profitable or not. I don't participate on any of the networking sites, nor do I plan to.

I have no idea what facebook is nor do I care. Or twitter. I do know what my space is but could truly give a ****, as far as im concerned it's probally not healthy to spend a lot of time online in this type of enviroment anyways. If these kids are bored get a job or volunteer somewhere be useful instead of useless, you will be happier and healthier for it.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Bingo! The only folk I have found on those sites are lonely losers that need to "put themselves out there." In other words, trolling for attention. Everbody else that I know of who are truely successful individuals do not post on either sites.

Edit: About the above commentary, kids don't count. Only adults do.
