I have a pair of RTA 11t hand me downs. i know the 11t's are great speakers. but would the tsi500 or 400 be considered upgrades? Would it be worth to replace the 11t's?

No, keep them and if you have some extra cash get the updated RDO silk tweeters and if you're really handy replace the caps and resistors in the x-overs.

Welcome to Club Polk. Also try to get a separate amplifier to that you hear what your speakers are truly capable of.

Sorry to say that I have not had the chance to hear either of the speakers you are talking about in this thread. I have heard a set of SDA SRS's and I was amazed on the sound they produce. They are pretty big speakers. Most wifes will not like them but they sound great!

Most companies wpc ratings are way overstated. You take that 105wpc & divide it by 7 channels & your speakers are getting a LOT less power than these companies would have you believe.

I had a 110wpc Denon driving at the time my 3 channel setup. When I purchased a 205wpc Parasound 2 channel amp, my 8T's came to life. I was hearing things on my cd's I had never heard before.

The plain fact is because receivers have to do so many things a compromise has to be made & it is made with the power.

If you want to make sure your speakers are operating to their full potential, I would look into getting separate amplification.

I always recommend at least a 200wpc amp. This is enough power to drive almost any speaker to its full potential, & unless you have hearing problems you will immediately hear a vast improvement over your receiver.

An amplifier is something that you will keep through all other upgrades to your system & they last for years.

I had a 15 year old 50wpc Rotel that I gave to my brother. It finally died at 18 years old.

To this day, getting separate amplification has been the biggest improvement to my system!:)
