I recently fell into audio bliss when my wife's brother let me have one pair of his SDA-1 for a great price. Now I have been out of audio components since these came out, but I have always loved high end audio setups. I would like to rebuild a system around the Polk's, but have know idea were to start. I have been reading this and other forums to catch up, but I thought if I post what I have you kind people could steer me down the right road. Presently this is what I have:
I know other info is more helpful such as my room is 15'X20' with tile floors and not much fabric, so I am sure echo or harshness is going to be a problem. Money spent is always another issue, this system will built a component at a time so I guess the most important upgrades should come first. OK fire away
Oh and BTW I already know most of this equipment is El Cheap O.
- TV-Sony KDL-46V4100
- Surround-Sony STR-KS2300 W/5 Speakers
- Reciever-Sony STR-D1015
- Blu-Ray- Sony BDP-S350
- and my newly aquired Polk SDA-1
(not sure what model Serial Number RSDAI11024)

Welcome to the forums! I just joined myself yesterday trying to find that replacement center channel! Heh when I upgraded from my Pioneer system to my Polk setup a few years back, I too took it a piece at a time. Are you looking to rebuild a HT? Voice-matching speakers, 5.1/6.1/7.1 so on? I'm sure people will be willing to give you great recommendations for set price depending on your needs.Truck setup

I guess I want both. I would like a great HT but also I love just listening to music. I have heard these SDA's both ways. The person I got them from had them hooked up to a HT and also listen to music with them. He had 4 and I got 2 from him. He's got way more money than me so I can't copy what he's got. I am not looking to go cheap, just reasonable. I know that is a relative term, but I mean in the thousands not tens of thousand like he is.Polk SDA 1C's

Welcome to Club Polk, If your looking for good equiptment you can usually find excellent used stuff at a reasonable cost.
As far as what the SDA's like, I'll leave that to the experts..

Since you have a nice set of SDA's I would get an amp first. I looked up your AVR and it does not have preamp outs so you will either go with an AVR or do seperates with a preamp and an amp. Depending on budget if you don't have a lot to spend right now go with as much AVR as you can afford and make sure it has preamp outs. Later down the road you can buy an external amp. Your SDA's will really perk up and sound great with a good amp.
Then I might go with a good center and a nice sub. If you do a lot of HT then you should invest in a good center as up to 80% of sound come from the center. Since you don't have much to dampen sound a smaller sub might be in order but that would be personal preference.

A while back I received an audio advisor mag in the mail. At first when I saw the name brands in it like Thiel, NAD, Etc. I just threw it on the side. After reading some of the systems in here, I took another look at it. Does anyone here deal with them. I saw what I think to be a good clearance deal on a NAD AVR. I thought about going this route as Thuffman advised and adding some amps later. I am so excited about this stuff I am even thinking of getting some equipment to play my old vinyl. What other mags or things should I read to get educated on whats available?
ThanksPolk SDA 1C's -

I agree with the other member that some of the prices can be a little high but there are some occasional good deals. What I can say is that I have purchased from them on several occasions and the experiences were great. They ship very fast and all of the products were exactly as advertised. I've never had to return anything but I would certainly buy from them again.
Hope this helps.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

You can buy a blade/blade interconnect cable but not pin/blade interconnect cable. You can make a pin/blade interconnect cable or ask Ben here on the forum to make you one. Theres a B&K amp for sale in our Flea Market that would be a good match for the SDA 1s. Do you have 1s, 1As, 1Bs, or 1Cs? Once you get them off that Sony, you'll have a ****-eatin grin from ear to ear.
