I recently planted the seed at home. Hopefully, the seed will grow into a new television by December or January. With that said, I need some input from the experts. My primary focus of a new TV will be to view:
1. Movies in HD format, whether it be Blue Ray or DirecTV HD
2. Football. This is the only sport I really follow

With that said, pleasepick one and give me the case for the options below:
A. 52" Sony LCD w/ 240 GHZ refresh rate
B. 50" Pioneer Plasma

In my opinion, if your not going to do any gaming, go with the Pioneer Plasma, they are in a league of there own. If you plan to do any gaming, you may want to go with the Sony LCD.

So far, nobody standing up for the Sony LCDs...I was looking between these 2 manufacturers due I already own Sony and Pioneer, and I am weird about trying to stay with a couple of the same manufacturers (not sure if it matters).

Not a big fan of Sony TVs. I like the Samsung LCDs, the Panasonic plasma and the Pioneer plasma (hands down the best display I have ever owned)

I can only speak for the Panasonic plasma displays, i have a 42" 1080p, I have no issues whatsoever with xbox gaming. I would buy another Panny if I needed to. Sony tends to be rather expensive, im not knocking Sony but they seem to offer LESS bang for the buck IMO.

I've tried pretty much everything... Samsung, Sharp, Sony, JVC, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, and Pioneer...
Especially with the new line, I think Panasonic is an absolute no-brainer. You do pay a premium for Pioneer... and they're great TVs. But bang for the buck, without a doubt... Panasonic.

I"ve been doing a lot of research regarding tvs as I want to get a new one sometime in the near future. I am waiting to see what the new Panisonic plasmas look like when they come out here in canada. I am also considering buying a Kuro from the usa and getting it shipped as well. Everything I read and hear leads me to these two brands for plasma.

    Don't forget to water it.

I think you sprinkle powered copper & plastic mixture on TV seeds, suspended in either plasma or liquid crystals depending on the type of seed.
