yes they are... I watched a guy crash one of them at an R/C park in Van Nuys...
he said he had close to 12k in building it. It was utterly destroyed. It made a two foot deep hole in the ground when it went down, and caught fire just like a real Super Hornet would have. They sound just like the real deal and even smell the same as they run on jet fuel. The Gear... sadly its not mine... and I to would love a crack at the stick in that bird. I did however get a backseat in an F/A-18 once... My experience with RC planes is spending around $700 and crashing it into thousands of pieces after about a minute.
madmaxVinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
I got an RC chopper yesterday (coco lama) and have been having a little fun with it. One minor crash so far(dinged blades).
It's a beginner 4 channel version, and man, does this thing ever require constant correction. It's awesome at building up momentum, but I want to hover right now. I feel for real heli pilots. I'm thinking my next choice will be a micro plane that can hover from. Still 4 channel, but a lot more stable.
I think there was one called thundertaker that got clocked at over 300 mph. Insane! -
the raptor in the post can do 250mph with the right powerplant...The Gear... To anyone looking at R/C plane and helio, get yourself a copy of
Realflight. Great way to build up flight skills. You can actually hook up your
controller to the system to control the flight of the aircraft.
Better to crash and burn simulated as opposed to real world.
I had a copy for a while. My boys hijacked it on me. They were much
better at using it than I was."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

LOL I don't know anything about R/C planes, but my guess is you don't want to START with that one should learn how to crash on the cheap ones first hahaMy Home Theater (WIP):

Agreed; you want to start with a trainer. I HIGHLY recommend using one of the computer simulators to learn first...it will save you a lot of heartache....TNRabbit

Choppers have gotten cheaper than planes, IMO.
For a plane, electric is just wussy and boring. You want nitro. We're talking like 300 to 500$.
For a chopper, wind is a problem, so small electric ones are a lot of fun. You can start off with a 3 channel and move up to the 4 channel. When you're ready to fly inverted, then consider a collective pitch 6 channel. You could buy a 3 channel, and a 4 channel, and a 6 channel for under 500$. -
this is so cool.
