These are what I use right now, but I didn't order enough so I only use them on the amp end.

Question: I followed their little installation PDF to put them together (link) and I have to wonder - is this really the optimal way? Plus I have to wonder at the fidelity difference between setting up banana plugs by just curling the strands around the plug ends versus tossing the plugs altogether and just putting the speaker wire into the binding posts...

You could solder them,But I think they'll be ok without the solder. I rigged boats and we never used solder on antenna cables for VHS radios. I'm just talking about the outer shielding. never had one come back.

I picked up some of these connectors a while back for my HT system. They had them on sale for 96 cents a pair when I got them too. It seems to be a pretty frequent deal.

They're of decent quality...nothing spectacular, but very acceptable for 96 cents a pair.

They'd probably work a lot better with a solder connection. Mine aren't soldered, and seem to be a little on the loose side. I couldn't detect any differences in SQ between bare wire connections and banana plugs in either case.

In theory at least, a banana plug is going to lessen the SQ, because of creating a potential gap in the chain, but I don't think it's anything to be worried about. Banana plugs have more pro's than con's IMO. They make connections a whole lot easier, and if you use heat shrink around the base of the connector, it can seal the wire off and help prevent corrosion of the copper.

worried about the connection at the IC? You should be worried about the potential corner-cutting inside your amp/reciever or inside your speaker.

In other words, don't sweat it.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
