I don't know much about the PSW505, however I can recommend a couple other to research.

Check out the Premier Acoustic PA-120, you can find it on ebay for $230 shipped. There is a massive thread about it on the AVSforums.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/H100-Premier-Acoustic--PA-120-Subwoofer!-Black-Color!_W0QQitemZ200327210359QQcmdZViewItem

I would also consider the Cadence CSX-12:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/CADENCE-CSX-12--12%22--350-WATT-HOME-THEATER-SUBWOOFER_W0QQitemZ310148235365QQcmdZViewItem

You can sometimes find an used SVS PB-10 for around $275 if you can wait.

I will be up front and say that i haven't personally heard the PSW505.

That being said, I have a Klipsch RW-10D that i am EXTREMELY happy with. It is definitely biased more towards HT than 2-channel, but it's not hard to listen to in 2-channel, either.

Myself and MMadden25 have both had great experiences with this sub, unless he's updated since his last thoughts on it and i missed it.

You may have to shop a little to get it in your price range, but i believe i paid $250 for mine, and i think he paid about the same.

You WILL get some port noise until you get your placement worked out, as a warning ahead of time. Now that placement is right on mine, i haven't noticed anything at all. It's a sub that "disappears" very well. If i was blindfolded and listening to a movie, i coudn't tell you where the sub was located.

The Mirage Omni S10 might be worth looking into. I believe if you're looking for a $275 sub, you should be able to find one. I also have two Mirage Omni S8s that i play with from time to time, i was using them in my HT setup before i tore it apart, and i love them.

Like i said though, i'm not 100% positive on today's prices for these subs. I would imagine the PSW505 is more readily available at your $275 range, and from what i've heard, it seems to be a great sub.

Make sure it's not the RPW-10. I was not so impressed with that one.

RW-10D. In my humble opinion, anything else in their newer lineup isn't really worth the money. :D

I had the Klipsch SUB12..($449)..I returned it and got on the Boston Acoustics HPS12HO deal they have. MSRP of $500 and I got it for $240 shipped.

It is tigheter than the Klipsch 12 and from what I have read, it is supposed to be tighter than the 505 (I almost pulled the trigger on the 505, but went BA instead).

Very very impressed with the BA HPS12!
As stated, OMNI is supposed to be good. I was unable to demo a S10 and it was jacked up on price (Magnolia)

I looked into the 45 pages of the Acoustic Audio sub.

I was going to get the SUb12, then I have read that the the Sub10 wasnt very good for music. I would imagine the 12 the and 15 being even worse.

Loud, yes...but not sure how they cram all those watts with a cheap price. Some users reported getting the Sub12 for $150 shipped.

PM was sent about the BA

I demoed an Omni S10 Premier and i was flat out AMAZED at what it did. It was plenty to completely dominate a 15x20 room if you wanted to, but scaled back nicely and still had a great response for music. Couple with the fact that it looks GORGEOUS, i consider the sub to be a real winner. The Premier is out of the $275 price range. The best i found was a floor model for $320 about a year ago, and i'm still mad i didn't jump all over it. I consider it to be a better sub than the RW-10D i'm using now overall. The RW-10D is better for HT, the S10 Premier better for music, but neither are a slouch in any department.

The difference between an S10 and an S10 premier isn't HUGE, and the S10 is still a great sub as far as i'm concerned. Like i said, i LOVE my S8s. Some of the most musical subs i've ever heard. You get almost no port noise no matter the placement, somehow. I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how they did that.

Anyways... here's a good deal on a factory reconditioned S10.

    http://www.customsoundco.com/Product_Detail.cfm?Product_ID=133&Special=1

After further research, the RW-10D will be hard to find in your price range. You're looking at more like $400 for that, it seems. Sorry. :(

The Acoustic Audio subs don't seem to be getting great reviews.... dodgy internals, cheap construction, nobody can seem to find them actually selling anywhere for retail price, etc....

I'd consider ponying up the extra cash to grab an S10 from the link i posted above..... i'd say either that or the PSW505, to be honest. I didn't realize how much the RW-10Ds were going for, i apologize for wasting your time.

With subs, as with many things, you get what you pay for. For budget subs, it's best to stay with something that's a well known bang for the buck. Of those mentioned in this thread...the PA 120, Bic H100, Cadence CSX 12 and the 505 all are known quanities and safe buys. I've heard them all except the PA 120 which I think replaced the Bic. Though spec'd into the mid 20s, none of them can really get there without room gain, but each offers alot of slam and punch above 30hz.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

The old Bic was better than the old Cadence XSub, but the CSX 12 was greatly improved and I feel better than the H100. I've heard both Cadence subs (CSX 12 & 15). So the PA 120, may in fact be slightly better or close to the CSX 12, but there's not going to be a huge difference in these subs with similar box size, amps and drivers at that price point.

Hrmmm.... $360 shipped? If that's the case, i'd personally look at that or the S10, then. You can get teh S10 for about $340 shipped from the link i gave you. If you're looking more HT, the RW-10D. More music, the S10, it's a bit faster of a sub and slightly more musical. It's also far easier to place.

That extra $70-$80 going up from the Acoustic Audio Sub15 will make a HUGE difference going to either of these.

Where are you located again? If you're within driving distance, i'd be more than happy to have you listen to either my RW-10D or S8s to get some impressions.

Slowpolky, let me just start by saying I was in exactly the same situation as you about 2 months ago. I had about $250 to spend on a sub, and I wanted the best bang for my buck. I wanted a sub with the highest peak power and highest RMS wattage on the specifications size, but I also wanted it to come highly recommended from a large number of reputable home theater specialists and users.

What I found most recommended, especially on the AVS forums, is the BIC Acoustech H-100 and the Premier Acoustic PA-120. I looked at both of them extensively, and narrowed it down to the PA-120, because it had better specifications and came at a lower price. The PA-120 also had great user reviews to support it, and in comparison to the H-100, there was little difference, and if any, in favor of the PA-120.

So I finally decided on the PA-120 (I research for hours and hours)...and then it came time to find where to buy it. It is only available from a few places, with most people going to ebay for the $229 shipped. I ended it getting it from SoundDistributors (www.sounddistributors.com), where I used coupon code TV15 to get 15% off and had it for around $225 shipped. It arrived perfectly, and I have been a repeat customer at sounddistributors a number of times. Acoustic Sound Design also sells the subwoofer, as well as Polk Audio speakers and such. Acoustic Sound Design is an authorized Polk Audio internet retailer, and the brother of the guy in charge of that site works Sound Distributors...so I have gone to both of them for business. I am in no way affiliated with either site in any way, but if you are looking for a non-sketch, customer friendly, will-replace-instantly-anything-not-working, lowest cost place to go, it's there.

    Anyway, hope that helped.

EDIT: I'm also from Minnesota by the way :)

The Bics have good ratings, but arn't they only 150watts RMS? It would be nice to see a 300rms unit.
