Usually I buy used electronics, but this time I bought a new harman/kardon HK 3490 and have some questions on the break-in/burn-in.
Please give me some input on the process.
Thanks to all!
Eric.

Mine was pretty dang good out of the box. It didn't change much like some other equiptment I've had..
I felt I was getting most of what it had to offer after about 30 hours or so. About the only thing I remembered noticing was it smoothed out a little bit more. It was a tad sterile out of the box. But smoothed out very quickly..
If you don't like it, I have a CA 540 Integrated I'll sell ya.:D

Try turning it on & enjoying it. Sheesh you people have to make a project out of everything.
You should be listening to the music NOT the gear.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
I have pretty much found that gear continues to break in until such time as it's broke.
The good news is then you buy new gear and see above.
Enjoy your new receiver Conrad.

When I get a new receiver I always open it up and replace all the wires with thicker gauge.
Then I sacrifice a chicken. Sounds great after that. -
Alternatively, you could send it to yourself via UPS a few times.

I usually try to break in myself for the new AVR using tools Ricardo suggested but not limited to it alone.
But seriously, 40 hours -100 hours seems enough for the AVR to be fully broken in. After that, it'll just becoming broken down.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -
I put mine in the microwave on high to 30 minutes.

I've always found that a fresh bottle of Hi Karate from the dollar store sprinkled over the connectors very lightly provided the BEST results
Turn it on and enjoy. It should settle down quickly.
