Does anyone know what happed to the two hosts of Shop Talk on WBUR in the 1970's. They had the most original show that told the truth about the state of Hi Fi then. They were on public radio so they were not obligated to the advertizers. They would tell you how Tech Hi Fi would adjust the speaker board so the house brand had a slight base boost will compairing speakers. This trick would set the house speakers apart from the rest of the brands. They got me into this nutty hobby. They named names and told you the good and the bad products. Much better than Freash Gear. The hosts were Peter Mitchell (engineer, broke and a big guy) and the other host was a shrink with money to spend. Another bit of their advise - close you eyes at the BSO and the sound is bigger. This works for home listening also. They even told you how to converge your TV set in 1970's. They helped the Car Talk guys get started. Way back when.

    Fresh gear is OK for a half an hour but any more those idiots drive me NUTS!!!

    BSO = Boston Symphony Orchestra. Magic sounds are made in the place. They never used any amplification in the hall and there is a wonderfull dynamic range. Shop Talk hosts said 15th row center was magic. The sound from that seat was the standard for setting up your two channel HiFi in your room. The sound would surround you. They said go to the symphony before you buy anything. Then bring a recording from the hall that you love and go to the stores and listen and compare. What is today's comparison? A Rock concert.
