Cats, Claws, & Speakers

so i know some of you out there have cats, and i just wanted to provide a tip to those that do. the day i brought my brand new set of RTi's home my cats were all over them. i almost had a stroke. so i locked the cats up to decide what to do.. drove over to the local wal-mart and picked up a can of Hartz Stay Off Training Aid for cats and dogs. this is what i did.. took a paper towel and sprayed the stuff on it, then wiped down the sides of my speaker grilles and then sprayed the general area of where they are placed. then i went to the cats holding cell with the paper towel sprayed with product, and put it in their faces, and wow they did not like that at all. then i let them lose and wah lahh, they have never gone near my speakers again! i also sprayed behind my set-up so they don't got back there and play with all the wires, cables, etc.
just a tip to those who may have the same problem and do not want to de-claw their cats!

I know a good Vietnamese restaurant...
I did the same thing using another product (don't remember the name) and the cats seem to stay away (dooh! I'll go home tonight and find the grills in shreds just for saying that). I also heard of people training their cats to stay off by placing sheets of tin foil (or anything else unpleasant to cats) around precious objects and furniture. The cats apparently hate to walk on it.Stan

I went with in ceiling speakers to avoid my 50 lb puppy tearing up a nice pair of towers. I even tried OC spray to keep the little nut away from my sprinkler heads, but she treated it like A1 sauce on a steak. I guess maybe I have to step up to 10X OC. Unfortunately, I learned that in ceiling speakers are not always best for a two story house, I get some unwelcomed sound bleeding threw to the upper floor.

Not that I don't like cats and dogs I don't like them in my house. My parents did not allow us to have a dog or a cat growing up so I guess I am following in their footsteps.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

Welcome to the forum BTW....
Just to add.......that stuff never worked for me. The cat is LONG gone!~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -

Hey now! We eat dog not cat!
I have a long haired calico and some gray mutt thing. They are not declawed. The most they do is rub up against them but never claw them. I use a low powered airsoft pistol to scare them off when they do scratch stuff like the couch.Main Surround -

I declawed my cat :P
But the spraying behind the entertainment system is a good idea.
I wonder if it works on girlfriends.... as they have a tend to mess up settings trying to figure out how to use my system.Home Theater:

You could have saved yourself a few bucks. Crushed red pepper works just as well, and you probably have some sitting in a cabinet anyway.
Sprinkle it on the floor around your speakers. Your cats will get it on their paws, and it will sting for a while afterwards. They'll try to lick it off, and then it'll be stinging their mouths too. After that, they learn not to go in that area.
For the record, this doesn't hurt them or anything. It was actually recommended to me by someone at a pet store, and I've read the same suggestion on several websites. The nirvana inducer-

I think that's just funny :P
You could also waterboard the cat if they get near your speakers. If you know what I mean by waterboarding (i.e. ask the US gov't if you don't know).Home Theater:

This work's! Took curt's advice after i received my Rti-a7's. No sooner did i have them hooked up and running, our cat reached up on one, claw's out, ready to shred. Caught him just in the nick of time. After using the red pepper,i dont have to scream at him anymore, just offer an occasional "bless you".:D
