so many of you mentioned rain.. it's not going to rain.. we get hardly any rain in the summer months here. it's dry most all summer.. well except for last night.. but most of the time rain isn't a worry.
thanks to the people who recommended actual tents.. that's what I need it recommendations. I looked at the REI website.. and we do have one here. they look nice... slightly higher than other stores.. but they have last years models on sale right now for not to much.
I really need sleeping bag recommendations now please.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

As far as sleeping bags, you need a summer bag. Pick one that looks nice and go with it. It's that simple. I prefer a nylon bag on the outside with a flannel liner inside. The Nylon doesn't soak up moisture as fast and the flannel is comfy on colder nights but breathes well enough that even if you sweat like a pig, you won't be soaking wet in the morning. If you needed a winter bag, purchasing one of those is a bit more involved. Worry about that when you decided to go winter camping.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Do not cheap out on a tent, buy a Eureka or MSR so you stay dry. I have a 20 year old Eureka dome that still keeps us dry, and an MSR for backpacking.

+1 on the Eureka tent suggestion. That's what I've got, and I don't plan on switching to a different brand anytime soon. Don't buy a Coleman...their products used to be very nice, but their quality has really went down. It's cheap Chinese made junk now.
Whatever tent you get, make sure to set it up and take it down in your back yard a few times. If you've never put up a tent before, it may be somewhat complicated. It's always good to already be familiar with it before you're at the camp site.
edit-By the way, it IS always going to rain when you're on a camping trip. As others have said, if you're not prepared for rain, you'll get a huge lightning storm. If you prepare for it, maybe you'll get through the trip without getting a single drop. It's good to be prepared for it in either case.
