A showdown of sorts in Seattle this morning as a controversial church protested outside Seattle's Garfield High School on Monday morning, hundreds of students gathered for a demonstration of their own.

The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas has been targeting several Seattle sites over the weekend and for some reason they chose to protest at Garfield High, the reason is a little difficult to understand, but according to their website:

story_big_wide

WBC is happy that Seattle has a later school year so we can visit the little brats before they begin their summer leave. We will be on hand to show the children of the disobedient rebels who run this nation - I say we will be on hand to show them exactly what "good" looks like.

The protesters from the Westbro Church were met by several hundred Garfield High School students in a counter protest. Students on Monday morning said they were there to celebrate their diversity and call for peace and love as a counter to the church's "hate speech."

Student organizers said they expected to have a couple hundred students for the counter-protest, and were surprised at the number of students that arrived. Organizers estimate that as many as 1,500 Garfield students were on hand for the counter-protest.

Police officers stood by as a precaution although the protests were mostly peaceful.

The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas has been open of their hatred toward **** and lesbians in the past. Going so far as to protest funerals for soldiers killed in Iraq as evidence of god's hatred against America.

Over the weekend the group, run by Fred Phelps, picketed outside of Saint James' cathedral in Seattle, the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle, and has plans to picket other churches and synagogues. - KIRO Radio

These idiots are so bad they give humanity a bad name.

Bob Dylan once said "Even Jesus would never forgive what you do." I think that sums up their actions nicely.

Phelp's hides behind freedom. The same thing that he protests against is his shield.
I do hope that someone silences him and his whole congregation of idiots. Permanently. There is no reason or rhyme for the amount of hate that these guys spew.

I'm NOT, repeat NOT defending those a-holes from Kansas, but it doesn't seem any less hateful than the **** spewed by the far left- i.e., Janeane Garafalo, etc.
Or the death threats that certain, more mainstream Christians get from the far left.
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

It's usually a borderline homeless looking type of person that waves those signs and chants in the name of God......They're degenerates through and through and those type of people protest the Pride things that go on all over the country........

    Losers........simple.

They did this at my school my senior year --

    "Operation Save America!"

Imagine me waking up at 7am, driving to school and seeing some dude jumping out at me in the road holding a sign with a mutilated fetus on it...

Mr. Phelps should look that one up.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, that is what makes this country so fu***** awesome. Excuse my French.
Sure, they are all clueless apes with the common sense God gave a rotten turnip but freedom of assembly, and speech might cover this one.
Only when given an audience do dipshi** like these obtain the necessary encouragement needed for their limited existence.
Let them rally, and when no one shows up with a camera to run 'a story' or counter protesters show up trying to drown them out, they will fade into obscurity.
Suggesting sniper practice on people such as this is satisfying, but narrow minded, and in the same vein as people like these.
