gonna pull the trigger and upgrade my onkyo 606 a/v. i've got it narrowed down to either an onkyo 806 or a pioneer elite sc-05.
i realize that its a matter of what sounds best to the individual, but i would very much appreciate any comments on either a/v from some of you guys that have this equipment.
btw my speakers are polk mon. 70's for fronts
polk cs2 center
mon 50's for surrounds
as always,thanks

Between those two, I would lean towards the Pioneer. I own the 806 and have heard the Pioneer. They are about the same for home theater and tv performance, with the edge going to the Pioneer. The Pioneer is VASTLY superior to the 806 for music performance. I've had a few small nagging issues with my 806 (not pasing through true black, blue spots with black background, delays in hooking up to DTS-Mater Audio sources, annoying sounds and delyas when changing sources). I don't know of any known issues with the Pioneer, but others here on the board that own the unit will chime in I'm sure. The ICE amps on the Pioneer 05, 07, 09s are really supposed to be something special. I've enjoyed my 806, but I think you will be getting a better all around unit with the Pioneer 05.

+1 for the Pioneer. I can't see you going wrong with the Pioneer.
Hands down I think it's better than the Onkyo. I find it just sounds clear and clean. Can you find a place to demo the two??? That would be a good way to verify for yourself. -
ok...thanks for the help
i do appreciate it -
Haven't heard the Pioneer's, but I can speak from experience that the 806 is a more than capable unit. I have pretty much the same setup as you (except I have 40's as my surrounds) and it does an amazing job. Just thought I'd throw in my $.02HT Rig
Receiver- Onkyo TX-SR806
Mains- Polk Audio Monitor 70
Center- Polk Audio CS2
Surrounds- Polk Audio TSi 500's
Sub- Polk Audio PSW125
Retired- Polk Audio Monitor 40's
T.V.- 60" Sony SXRD KDS-60A2000 LCoS
Blu-Ray- 80 GB PS3
2 CH rig (in progress)
Polk Audio Monitor 10A's
It's not that I'm insensitive, I just don't care..

onkyo doesn't have a problem with movies they are very dynamic, it is the music side that it is not as good at.
The pioneers do stereo much better.
