RC80i in-ceiling and 130 watt Onkyo SR806

I am considering purchasing the Onkyo SR806 rated at 130 watts per channel. I need to install in-ceiling speakers. Two questions:

1) RC80i is rated at 100 watts, will this be a foolish match to the Onkyo considered above, should I instead look at the 706 which is rated at 100 watts?

2) Would it be acceptable to install 7 of the RC80i, using this speaker for all 7 channels (center, surround, etc.)? Also seeing if I have wall room for two rear speakers and looking at the RC85i.

My ceilings are 10 feet, the room is odd dimensions opening up into dining and kitchen areas so am wall-challenged.

Thank you for any advice!

Welcome to Club Polk. Your speakers will be just fine with the Onkyo 806. More speakers are damaged by being over driven with too little power rather than too much power.

What's more is in the future, you can purchase a separate amplifier for more power to ensure that your speakers are getting all the power they need to operate to their full potential with the 806.

Awesome. Thank you, do you have any opinion on the second question--designing a 7.1 system, would the RC80i work as a center speaker?

Below are options I am considering. 2 in-wall speakers for the rear surround, 4 in-ceiling speakers for all but the center and the woofer. I have a woofer already but one purchased 10 years ago from Radio Shack for about $300 and not sure the specs. Not that interested in upgrading it, from my experience not sure if the woofer is all that critical but open to suggestions on that.

    Polk Audio RC85i in-wall Speakers

Yes, this should work fine, and yes, you can use a ceiling speaker as your center channel.

P.S. You should probably consider upgrading your subwoofer at some point if HT is a big priority, whenever budget allows. It'll take something in the $500-1,000 to make a big difference IMO, unless you consider used or refurbished models.
    Alea jacta est!

I am building a covered patio. I will have two zones with 2-RC80i ceiling speakers/zone. I am now considering what amplifier to use. Given its functionality, I would like to use the WiiM Amp for each zone. This amp has 60watt power, and reviewers have stated it works well up to a sensitivity level of 93db. In your opinion would this amplifier be adequate to drive two RC80i ceiling speakers?

Those speakers aren’t difficult to drive. You should be fine. Of course, more power is better all other things being equal, but you’ll be fine.
