Its not the Vibrato -- (Vibrato has the external PS)

I cant even pronounce what it is called... I forget what it is exactly

Either way, it is supposed to be up there with Wadia, Musical Fidelity, etc etc

The good thing is if I like it Klaus is hooking me up and more... so... I am hoping I dig it so I can get a really solid source for a change.

So, you're expecting an SQ difference?
What's wrong with the jolida? ( I may be shooting in the dark here )

    No, that's Yamaha.

I don't mean to offend, it's just that I remember the symphonic name being used on some incredibly bad all-in-one pseudo rack systems that were sold in Kmarts. Did somebody buy the name and remake the company and go more high end, or are there two separate companies using the same name?

Not even the same brand --

They have $10-15,000 amps and preamps -- CDP as well...

Wilson Audio uses the Symphonic line preamp for alot of their demos

This is the brand Odyssey bases 90% of its components off of. Thats the reason I am interested in it as all of my electronics were voiced with this CDP as the center piece!

Back when there was a Wadia in this room, there was apparent change in the noise floor and clarity. The Shanling has a lot of digital artifacts in the high end. The reason I didn't like the Wadia (other than price) is the fact it was completely emotionless and had no pace with the music. I am hoping the Symphonic CDP can give me similar strengths, but with a little more emotion than the Shanling can convey.

I'll take a higher noise floor and some grainy highs and a slightly honky midrange that I can tap my foot to rather than a boring old high end CDP that cleaned up the signal so much it sounds like some absolute digital transmission!

Roger that, Trey. There's nothing worse than a cdp that goes so far to clean up the signal that it removes the life from the music.
I still need to get by there and put an ear on the new speakers.

But for now, I'm off to Durham and then to Noahs in the morning!!!
    Road trip!

Well, technically you can order a Symphonic Line CDP at any time from Klaus (and any other Symphonic Line piece at that) ---

So yes I guess in a way he is, but this was his demo player he took to shows. He had it upgraded to 2009 specs before sending it my way.

Most balance design sound better running balance, although that player
looks like the it sounds good no matter how you run it:)

So I finally have gotten in some listening time...

I am going to have to say that the Symphonic Line CDP is staying...

The biggest difference has alot to do with staging and clarity. For instance, alot of CDs have alot more natural depth to them now where as before they seemed kind of 2 dimensional. There are certain passages in CDs where it feels like the actual instrument in definitely in the room, no questions about it... has a very natural feel and texture, almost like someone is playing it for me at the store... This is what I like to hear...

And around the vocals, where alot of others instruments like bass drums, snares, toms, etc -- there always seems to be some type of cloudiness with my system in this area that makes some things hard to understand. The Symphonic Line CDP seems to take this information and decipher is so much better than any other play Ive had. I can clearly interpret all this information with ease. So the depth is much better...

Width, another biggie, I like to have instruments extend beyond the speakers and this is harder to do in my room than one would think...

Not the case anymore, I have not listened to any well recorded CD where there wasnt something placed beyond the speakers at all times, lots of seperation...

Bass accuracy and clarity in the upper bass regions --- another perk, I can clearly pick out bass guitars now, where this was an issue before.

    Noise floor, far lower...

This kind of goes with the depth, but just clarity and detail -- there is far more analytical detail in vocals and higher frequency instruments that was not there before, but it does not detract from the music....

However it does this and why, I do not know - but I definitely like it and wish I had done this a long time ago...

Yeah, the Shanling didnt stand a chance.

It wasnt like a "Yeah...I think I hear a difference..."

It was more along the lines of... Wow, yeah, thats how its supposed to sound!
