I am excited about this one. Nothing but excellent reviews. Going to have a bunch of friends over Tuesday night. As you know I really enjoy horror movies. I know very little of this one and that is why I will probably enjoy it. Even though it's PG-13. Any thoughts???

My wife and I saw this one at the theater and really enjoyed it! If you are expecting a horror story you are going to be dissappointed, this is more of a ghost story, no hack-n-slash! You will really need to pay close attention to the details for this movie to "work." The plot may seem a little week at first, but give it a chance and this film may surprise you. -
This one stuck with me a while. I thought that, of course, it's silly if you analyze it, but if you do the proverbial willing suspension of disbelief, its atmosphere really creeps you out. However, as always, its a matter of taste.
I saw it at a local "budget cinema" that was in its last wk of business--the kind that shows second runs of recent movies for about 2 bucks. Despite all the mudslinging re going to the movies, I found it quite satisfying (except for whatever it was that my shoes were sticking to);) .Testing

I saw the original Japanese one..i enjoyed it a lot..I have no interest in an American remake -
Why not Bill? It may surprise you, and you'll never know if you don't give it a chance. I too have seen the original, and I can say that for the first 2/3 of the film, the American remake is very faithful, practically shot fot shot. Some parts have been changed or expanded on, while others have been eliminated or localized for the American experience. Overall, I think it's a very well done remake, keeping the slow-burn build up of creepiness of the original. Most American remakes of foriegn films are very hackneyed and lose the subtilty of the original, but The Ring avoids this nicely and asks the audience to think for themselves a bit.

this is the stuff that doesnt appeal to me ..why copy a movie shot for shot? I dont understand the point of sitting through when i can just throw the original in anytime I want. I guess im just sick of the lack of good writing in hollywood that everything is either a remake of an old movie or a foriegn movie or a big screen version of some lame **** tv show.. -
Watch it last night. Very creepy and keeps you in suspence.
I really enjoyed it. They showed a clip of the Japanese film and it looked OK. Never heard anything about the movie before so it was better to watch it like that. As for as rehacking "stuff" welcome to the "real" world. The worst is when Country Music steals a song from pop or classic/modern rock.
Anyway great movie with excellent sound and video quality. Could have been much more aggresive on the surrounds though. -
Thanks for the thumbs up, Scott. We'll catch it tonight and I'll chime in tomorrow. It's in DTS - that's a plus."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

I saw The Ring DVD in Worst Buy today while I was picking up Star Trek IV, and I immediatly decided to pick it up. As I was taking it to the register however, I noticed a distinct lack of extras while perusing the back. No commentery, no production featurettes, no photo gallery, just a trailer for the original and a short film by Gore Verbinski. Now, just because a dvd is light on extras isn't nessecarilly a deal breaker, but this time I decided to wait. Whenever they release a barebones dvd of a popular film, you just know a "special edition" is in the works. I've been burned enough times having to buy the same movie twice to get the bonus content (X-men anyone?)

The Ring scared the **** out of me - pure and simple. I let myself get totally into the movie and it was a majorly effen creepy flick. I jumped out of my skin about 15 times. I loved it - I'll have nightmares tonight. :-)
The editing was spectacular - a hallmark of a genuinely scary movie.
I thought the soundtrack was good, but not really stellar in any way. The surround use was decent, but not overdone - maybe it should have been for this kind of movie.
Overall a huge thumbs up on the scare factor - way better than 13 Ghosts.

Watched it last night as well, not too bad, nothing great but it made for a worthy rental.
Too many unexplained things that had me in questions.
The scariest thing took place right after the movie ended and I started to watch the "don't watch this clip". Just as it started and the ring appeared, the phone rang, damn, what timing my wife has. I expected to pick up the phone and hear 7 days.
Peace Out~:DIf...
